4 coming in from Houston,TX
See that 'calculate everything than double it' is probably closer to our method of planning. We are coming in an RV (boo and hiss... but I have to have a cpap machine). Between tickets, flight, RV including increase deposits cause it's bm, gas - driving to and from Vegas plus gen gas, food, drink, water for freaking everything, grey water removal, survival/shading supplies, bikes, etc., we're calculating closer to 6k per couple... we do have some added expenses for the extra time in Vegas prior but we've all been to a few local burns - no long foreplay for us thank you - we're ready to get dirty!
While planning, I knew we all want to be comfortable so we've saved and saved and are still saving to ensure that at least our comfort shouldn't be too much of an issue... the rest we can deal with. =)
And if we calculated everything stupid high (like gas at 10 m/gal in the rv and get away with 12 m/gal or $5.00 a gal and it's $2.70) well then we come home with unspent money in our pockets. BUT if it does wind up costing that much at least we're well prepared and won't have to hock our future months to cover our extravagances... nor will we be spending time on the playa sweating bills and the default world.
OH and we all live by these mottos already -
you never know where the weekend will take you - just roll with it and have a good time
and take care of your fellow campers... i'm not saying that they shouldn't be radically self reliant like we plan to be... but don't leave someone in a tent to "ride it out" or without water or in a situation where potentially they could get heatstroke and die because they're sleeping in an oven... Sorry pet peeves - we camped with people who did just that for our first Flipside and then said 'well it's the experience you make it' never mind that we weren't the ones controlling our experience... they were.
Needless to say, we got with better people to camp with and had an awesome time the 2nd time around, utilizing the things we learned we helped them avoid the pitfalls we had the prior year - people who believe that each of our experiences is important and if one of us has heatstroke well let's work together to change that.
I LOVE MY CAMPMATES... d&j - ya you guys!

Sorry that's who I am... It wasn't even our friend who was having problems in the tent but theirs. The girl is wailing at the top of her lungs about 'where is she?' and their only concern was it might cut into their party time. I stayed with her for about 45 minutes to calm her down and then we walked out into the night to have a good time... it was just sad and just one of many examples of how they care for their friends.
