FB vs ePlaya

Post by goathead » Tue May 25, 2010 4:36 pm

while I enjoy FB, I am finding it really smothering at times.
Normal friends and family have no understanding of us, and I am getting to the point I really don't care if they do. But still catch myself not wanting to "offend" them...

But then again mom borrowed my camera and wound up posting some of my BM pics, glad they where the "what we did on our summer vacation pics".

LOL

You can make lists on FB and choose which segment of your friends can see which posts. I did this because I have young nieces as friends, as well as Navy moms, conservative old Navy buddies, and burners. Pretty simple to do, and set the default publish setting to exclude the more mundane family members.

Genius's mom thinks he never posts. I let most of my posts show to family, but certainly not all.

Likewise - I have one for family and in-town people, and the real one.

IE, the burner one!

Which I'm happy to include some of you on.

I don't have FB access at work, and only recently got internet at home, so...I don't really get it.

I remember back when FB started, it was "only" for college students. My co-worker was on it all the time.

Maybe it'll go the way of Friendster and Myspace - apparently OK Cupid is gaining speed (I didn't even know it was still around), and there's...Whisper? Fetlife... /shrug

I like my friends three dimensional.

Well, and y'all.

i wasn't referring to any of those myths so much as the fact that no one on the internet is making much money off the advertisements .... i suspect a great many websites that are currently free will start to charge before too long. unfortunately.

The kids pretty much insist on it. It is a convenient way to keep in touch with them. Don't use it for anything else. Fetlife is our "lifestyle" site of choice and where most of our actual friends are active.

I had myspaz...(actaully hahaha I still do...cause you cant really delete your account.(tried)

But that was mainly to keep in touch with friends and family (non-burner).
But them days are gone and I actually only go on there once a month to check on a friend going thru testi cancer. and he's kinda a dick about keeping anyone informed over his prognosis...

The fb...I actually dont even remember why I got one of those....????

But most of it is geared(my page) to just my burny friends...My dad loves to lurk on my pages...and photo's.

But then again...I might take my dad someday!

Heck I have to Facebook identities... On for business and family the other for my freaky life! AND privacy block is my bestest friend... I've tested it and if you have someone privacy blocked, they don't even see your account come up no matter if they're friends of your friends or not... blocked! *I did this to all my co-workers on my freakyfb identity*

If it wasn't for f/b and eplaya, I'd look alot less busy at my desk during work hours.
I only have one f/b and have found a few people from this board on there lately, I do like that part...
I guess having multi f/b's = having socks on here, which I don't have either. I'm me, and thats it.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

Any tips on doing that?
Or even editing?
I only went on there to see links friends had.
Can't even edit now.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm willing to use black hat approaches.

And thanks for the link, Fishy.
That's the first time I've been on bookface.
They always want me to log in and after myspace, no chance.
Their reputation for privacy violations is horrible too.

FB is primarily useful for keeping in touch with my friends who don't live around here. I don't do apps or groups or games, I hide people if I don't care about their status updates, etc.

The latest Time has an article about it, this one lady says she spends about FOUR HOURS a day. Doing what?? I log in, see what's new, get on with it. Unless someone chats with me, maybe 15 minutes a couple of times a week.

I actually thought of this thread last night, because I went on FB, glanced through the first page of "updates" and sent a friend request (mmm...BRC Rangers...) and was like...."WTF do people do here for HOURS? I can't even come up with something for 10 minutes."

Our daughter tries to get us involved in mafia wars and snarkle or whatever it is,,,, have no idea what they are about and have no interest. But I guess some folks find it oddly entertaining.

We consider it our "vanilla" or "sociably acceptable" profile and use it as such.

it is kind of odd, on one hand it has put me in touch with friends/family who I haven't seen in years.
Really glad to be in contact with them, as opposed to just hearing about when they die.

and I guess in most ways I have always followed my own path, fuck it they have always wondered about me, let them get a glimpe.
Just smile and make them wonder more.
