What's the best type of duct tape to use at Burning Man for general purposes? Your favorite brand?
Thanks!

For wrists and ankles I find that used bicycle inner tubes work well. It's a personal preference thing I guess.misfit wrote:silver duct tape, DT brand, is good for the wrist and ankles. but i prefer a gag ball for the mouth.
Duct tape pulls your hair out when you take it off.

If you were indeed looking for a serious answer....... We use only gaffers tape. It leaves no residue, has a high tear strength and is easy to work with. It is the standard in the pyro and special effects industry. I prefer the brand Shurtape, but Polyken works well also.

Robbidobbs supplies all her minions with Duck Tape brand silver duct tape for applying the signs to the potties. It works well and holds up all week. Some other tapes fall off in the heat of the day.

Any brand, and the only good use for it is binding up broken tents and garbage sacks for packing when you leave.

I think I use 3M. It's sticky. I used it to attach a fly to a pole after I broke the tip off the pole. It worked. But I have used gaffers tape. It's more expensive. But once you put duct tape on something, it is difficult to get it all off, you have to finish with solvent. So on things you want to look like what they did before you put the tape on, should probably use gaffers. On fly poles, duct tape will do.

Yes. Tape, in general, is pretty useless. If I had the money to spend on gaffers tape then I would never use duct tape.(Gaffers tape costs 2x as much.. usually more if you don't buy it in bulk!).Snow wrote:gaffers tape works much better than duct tape, not that I'd use either on the playa for much. Dust pretty much makes putting tape on things not work out so well.

This looks like the shit wrote:3Mâ„¢ Performance Plus Duct Tape Nuclear Grade 8979N has a unique tape construction that allows for both permanent and temporary applications whether indoors or outdoors. It is removable with little or no adhesive residue from most opaque surfaces up to 6 months after application. 3M duct tape 8979N is also UV resistant for one year. It will not delaminate or deteriorate in sunlight. The tape is conformable, abrasion resistant, and water resistant. The polyethylene film and cloth scrim construction provides straight, easy tear with high tensile strength for the most demanding applications.

Monday I saw the neighbor's kid walking down the street with a roll of tape. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "This is duck tape, I'm gonna get some ducks." I laughed and he went on hs way. An hour or so later he came back being followed by a half dozen ducks. Yesterday he walked by carrying some wire fencing. I asked him what he was doing, he said "This is chicken wire, I'm gonna get some chickens." An hour later he came back followed by a flock of chickens. This morning he came by carrying some pussy willow. . .
