Best Way to Bring Music Along?

Post by EmilyD » Wed May 26, 2010 8:26 pm

I tried to search this question and got 4000+ returns (none of them obvious) so thought I'd pose the question freshly.

We're wary of bringing our iPods as they might get ruined but we do have a CD/Radio combo with speakers and have thought about burning mixed CDs to play. Is that a good solution? Suggestions welcome.

Pelican makes an awesome little water/dust-proof container you can put an iPod (or good music player) in, and it gives you a 3.5mm out jack. Plug it into any sound system with an aux jack, and you're good to go.

I would think a CD player would probably do okay. Count on cleaning the laser lens repeatedly. Is this for camp? A bike? An art car?

I was just gonna suggest Pelican myself.

Other option: zip loc bag with a small hole cut in a corner for your ear bud wire.

Having said that I'll note that I have the same functioning iPod I've taken to the playa for five years running and the dust hasn't diminished its quality a bit.

We have a digital media player ($100) at Fryes. We use computer speakers, with subwoofer. One is 100 watts and the other is 200 watts. I also have an old phone which plays windows media player as a backup.

The remote speakers which are self amplifying make it possible for you to shelter your media player while having the speakers more exposed.

Noooooo!!..... CD Players last a few days out there....

I know, cause I've bought a couple already, and they don't work when you get back. It's not so much the CD reader, but the mechanics get all playafied.....

We go strickly iPod type devices, protected in plastic bags if you want to. We still do try to play the random acts of CD gifts, but after day 3-4, we never know if they will work..........

Great tips everyone thanks! We'll bring one iPod and leave the other one home in case of Playafication. We'll also bring the CD Player/radio thing because we don't care about it so much. Even if the CD part breaks we can still use the radio. So...burning some CDs and keeping everything in plastic bags. Good ideas!

Oh yeah and I'll look into that Pelican thingie.

I have brought music ever year in one form or another and NEVER listened to any of it. There is way too much other stuff going on to feel bored enough to play my music. I could always sing for you EmilyD.

I briefly had a Skullcandy hydration pack. Earphone jack and speakers in the straps. I only turned on the music once in the few years I had it. I ended up giving it to my nephew to wear on his runs. Yeah, too much stuff going on to bother with a personal soundtrack.

It was way cool though.

Oh, and we camp in Hushville so there's that no amplified music thing anyway.

Hmmm, thanks for the kind offer but not sure if you're any good at singing. It could be a horrible gift. ;-)

I guess we'll mostly be using music on our drive up and back.

I can assure you without question, that I am probably the worst singer you have ever heard. In fact, I have been banned from singing in my own shower!

WHEW! That was a close call. I'm glad I stuck with my intuition!
