My two adult sons bought tickets to burning man for my birthday and we are trying to decide if we should join a group or go solo. We have a small 1982 Toyota RV (brought up to speed by Black Rock Auto in Sacramento) and will have shade structure, etc. Opinions, suggestions. Two of us are first timers.
Opinions or suggestions:
Thanks

First year? Go solo. Find a spot to set up camp as close in as you can without impinging on a theme camp's space (don't worry, they'll keep ya honest, trust me). Maybe set up next to a group that look's like they've done this before...in no time you'll be neighbors sharing each other's goodies.
Wherever you set up it will be the perfect spot. Then go out and about. Check out as many of the theme camps as you can and try to find one that might suit you for future Burns.
Joining a group now is fine, but you've got to research the groups and sell yourself. Many, but not all, have already max'd out their rosters.
Not all of the groups/theme camps will appeal to you...they call them theme camps for a reason. Some require a LOT of work...so there you are, first year, and didn't get to do anything because of camp duties.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
