Okay so this is SO silly and I know its horrible but I kind of like biggest loser, that show makes me cry so hard! These peoples struggles seem so real!
Ugh, anyways... Ran for 20 mins. Just FYI I always walk for 10 minutes before running. It eliminates that calf cramping I hate so much, warms up the muscles and totally worth it.
Plan on doing the interval training video and maybe some serious punches tonight before going drinking. Nothing relieves stress like punches man. NOTHING.
Also started eating at least one PAMPLEMOUSSE ( grapefruit but I seriously love that word ) a day. Some studies suggest they help wrangle a wild appetite to a more appropriate one. If not, that's cool, they are low cal, tasty, and lots of vitamins so yay!
Yesterday did kickboxing ....story time: This club is full of people training for competition and the girls there are not very girly so I'm guessing when I show up in my yoga gear, pedicure and hello kitty water bottle they *might* have judged me for a wimp. But No! Now they are training me harder. We started doing drills where if I don't block my partner has to actually hit me. Not getting punched is a real motivation to work it! Super fun.
Seriously, PAMPLEMOUSSE.

Fun!
Bananas are also supposed to be very healthy food.
(I can spell "bananas" just fine -- I just don't know when to stop.)
:D
Does any one have some favorite work out songs/albums they'd like to suggest?
I love Lady Gaga but it's getting old. ACDC is good for getting pumped up. Also some heinous rap can be really catchy with a good beat for working out. Tool has some good stuff for when I want to get angry ( like kickboxing style )

nawp, cutting way back on them...........Ugly Dougly wrote:Ygmir, are you eating a lot of carbs and sugar?
I am trying out Zumba tonight for the first time.
I did the whole "no carbs " a couple of years ago......lost a ton of weight fast, like a pound a day, after the initial 12 or so days......but, it makes me crazy.......so, if I can cut back, and not get crazy, all the better.......for those around me, anyway.
I'm just trying to work harder......I have this thing about, if I'm going to work hard and sweat, I should be "doing" something, like splitting firewood or stuff like that........

Well, Mothy, I've done plenty of samba, so I wanted to see if i remembered anything. Looks like Zumba is an amalgam of different styles. I was the only guy there, so I felt thrilled and embarassed at the same time. I felt a little awkward when they started doing belly-dancing moves. It was fun, didn't get any phone numbers, though.
Bacon, Ygmir! Try the bacon diet!
i just took a dump that had to of weighed 6 pounds. thats a pretty good fitness routine
That was good, you did it right fire, just continue following your routine. And you will have to have the healthy body you want. Good luck for the fitness exercises and my advice to you, just follow your balance diet.

The management of the fitness club apologizes for these occasional interuptions that seem to be outside our control. We now return to our regularly scheduled fitness fun for those more mature of mind.
Fitness opportunity this weekend! It is the Grand Championship Kinetic Sculpture Race up on the north coast of California -- Humboldt County. Behind the Redwood Curtain, as my friends up there like to say. If I were not active in KSR, I'd probably weigh 300 pounds now. Great incentive to stay fit, without the stress of "real" athletic competition. So, yes, I'm trying to recruit you to future editions of this glorious Hobby/Art-Form/Sport/Behavioral-Disorder.
And if not as a racer, then as a Glorious Spectator -- which you can do this weekend! Spectators are welcome to follow the racers on bicycles, so you can get a workout without even noticing -- because you are laughing so hard at those doofooses pedaling a camping tent, or a land shark, or a picnic basket, or a triceratops right in front of you.

Oh shiiiii! Thats about 31 miles...so jogging at 3 miles per hour would be about 30 hours?! No. Just No...wait your kidding right?Bounce530 wrote:How does 50K (yes, five zero) in the desert sound? Sound like fun? Well, it's happening this year. A BurningMan Ultra Marathon!
I've been in a funk lately, my knee was THROBBING yesterday so I took a break. :/ Got a reusable ice pack for my knee. Thought it would be more economical but I think they are SUPER bad for land fills so blah.
Today I will do a 20 min interval work out and maybe go swimming because it's kind of therapeutic. Although I'm not sure how going swimming here will be because I'm mostly covered in tattoos and it might shock some people. On a normal day that's totally fine but tonight I might not be up to it.
Ugh, need to get out of this FUNK!

ow ow ow, I feel like such a baby right now.
Iced the bad knee, super ecodestroyer ice pack is heaven, comes with a strap and it's shaped like a donut so it fits around my knee..ugh I kind of love it. I'll pass it on to my kids, promise.
Ate some pizza, was craving cheese like no other. GOT to do the interval training! BRB going to go SWEAT!

As I work in the environmental field, I have been watching how things are changing in the whole "disposal of used stuff" field. I'm pretty impressed with the speed with which the "civic composting" thing is spreading. (Of course, I'm old enough that I was alive at the tail end of the "feeding garbage to city hogs, which are then slaughter for bacon" thing, so we've come full cycle in my lifetime.)
Which doesn't mean that there is a good way to dispose of those things, or even that there will be by the time you need to get rid of it.
This is an interesting book, and I'm still pissed with the fact taht I cannot compost my couch. oh well.

Huh, I had no clue! Sounds awesome. Would you eat those jelly glucose things while you run? How do people stay energized when they are marathon running... guess I could google that.Bounce530 wrote:They're planning on 8 hours for the 50k. Starts at 4am till noon.
DM you said you watch Biggest Loser...Daris ran 23 miles in just a bit over 4 hours. So it can be done. (just not by me...yet)
I bought a cheap bike and tried riding it last night. Sucked super bad, so I think I'll return it and get a better bike. The shifting mechanisms didn't really work, the seat didn't adjust enough ( I'm tall ) and the peddles were short so it was harder to use :(
I got hired at as a medical coder, put in my two weeks at the bar I work. Two days before I start my new job they told me they miscalculated and can't bring me on. I WAS PISSED. mostly sad though, but my partner had a good idea. I asked them to write a letter or recommendation.
SO that's why I've been gone for a few days. LAME, have to go find another job.
Anyways, I really want to get another bike and ride around more. Hopefully the weather stays nice.
Lastly, my favorite snack ( to replace chips...god I love chips...) is broiling broccoli and cauliflower with olive oil and "Italian seasoning" ( I thinks its probably oregano, basil and some stuff like that ) They get crunchy and yummy. Dipped in some ginger salad dressing and its delicious.

So I did more research, the 50k run at BM sounds awesome! I was sure that it was a joke but Ultra marathons are legit!

I maaaaybe able to get up to that level in 97 some odd days but I don't think so. Right now I can only run 15 minutes non stop with out taking a 2 min break. But then again, I'm not pushing my self towards a goal!
So I looked up how to train for 5k and I'll start there. I know that medium intensity aerobic has been sort of iffy on weight loss and interval training is the star child but to be honest I am at the hardest part of weight loss and anything is going to be in the right direction.
Right now I weight a healthy number and I look healthy, BUT I'm trying to tone up and be better then average!! It's addicting. Its been 8 months since I was "overweight" ( according to BMI and we all know how lame bmi is. )
OH BACK TO TOPIC OF RUNNING..derp.
I like about.com and they have a workout schedule for beginner runners
http://running.about.com/od/racetraining/a/first5K.htm
It starts off with 5 min walk, 1 min run/1 min walk for 20 minutes and works up to 30 mins of running after a few weeks. I think most people that don't have injuries or health concerns could do this!

I think you may be right...plus this thing was so cheap!gaminwench wrote:Dmoth...re: bike- you don't need gears on the playa, just fat tires, a basket, lighting, and a comfy, wide seat (covered in fur!)... haunt garage sales for 'old-school' cruisers; I love my old, beater Schwinn (painted pink and covered with stickers and fluffy stuff)...
Today my partner and I started our new routine. I knew if he saw me working out enough he would want to get in on it. I was like...okay if you agree to work out with me, its all or nothing! Haha, he agreed! Poor guy!
Ran 30 mins this morning, doing arm weight training tonight.
While we were in Seattle on a business trip I played Dance Dance Revolution for like 4 hours a day. That is an addicting game! Kind of messed up my knee but nothing an ice pack can't fix.

Thats a pretty sweet link. We did a 5k about a month ago, I had no idea how some of the people were able to run the whole damn thing, non-stop. But, I'm also not much for long distance anything.diamondmoth wrote: I like about.com and they have a workout schedule for beginner runners

I got back on my Wii fit tonight. I hadn't touched it since my SIL died in March. Deaths in the family affect me deeply.
I've gained 4.4 pounds which is evening weight, I'm always lighter in the morning. Plus there's that female thing. But I can feel the pounds. I worked lightly, mostly balance games, 15 minutes and I worked up a vicious sweat doing basically nothing. Long road ahead of me.
I also did housework, which makes me feel better. Been doing the light weights too, fluff to most people, but a beginning for me. Yet again. I can't seem to keep doing what I know I need to do. Sigh.

I'm so lucky that my father walks with me 3 times a week. That exercise partner thing really helps. I"ve been getting some scary muscles this spring.
Now to worry about diet...
