Hmm, I can't imagine why Canada wouldn't want you to visit or live here, gyre. I know the border guys are futsy (sp?) about DUIs but even that can be overcome at your local Canada consulate office. A waiver can be obtained even for federal felonies after behaving yourself for a few years. Otherwise I can't imagine why we would try to keep you out.gyre wrote:How is it not?ygmir wrote:you would............gyre wrote:Funny, I think of canada as being rather conservative.
BC is rather different from the rest of the country.
I am still considered unfit for canadian residency and maybe even tourism.
And yet I have free passage to any number of fascist and socialist frontiers.
How liberal is canada?
It says much about politics in this country that embracing the constitution and democracy is considered "left" by anyone.

It's a very minor misdemeanor I was forced to plead to, in spite of being the crime victim.
DUI would actually be much harder to overcome.
There is a problem in translation between the two legal systems.
But it does say a lot about the caution built into canadian politics, that it would even be an issue.
As you said, I would have to go through the rehabilitation process.
They said it could take quite some time.
I am not technically barred from visiting, but they said it could happen.
It is left totally up to the border people.

As far as the Germans go, ban them, don't ban them... What difference? But the French? My god, they are French. And their Quebecois cousins...

Fascinating! If you change only four letters in the word "milk" you get the word "beer"

hello.
I read, initially this thread, and was concerned for my colleagues and I, in our visit to your playa, for our testing related to our power project.
I now see, it is in great fun, and, I can see the humor you all posses.
I am so looking forward to visiting your playa, as part of our project.
Our group, collectively, are also quite intrigued by the social aspect of your festival.
We have been studying past threads and posts, both here and other sites.
It is our hope, to be accepted as humans, not just as Deuschlanders.
We are a group of scientists and engineers and therefore, may not be so socially adept as those of you who have participated previously, but, we will make our best attempt at participation.

Don't worry. Most Americans have difficulty distinguishing between the East Coast (on the right) and the West Coast (on the left). Just call it "soccer" instead of "football" and claim that you are from North Dakota (easily remembered hint: the capital is Bismarck) and you will be accepted as natives. For more helpful information about faking being from North Dakota, click on this image:kvon wrote: It is our hope, to be accepted as humans, not just as Deuschlanders.

Thanks Kvon. When it comes to "fitting in" to our culture, let me tell you in the spirit of the humor you are learning to appreciate-- don't get your lederhosen in a twist!kvon wrote:hello.

Briefly, The Ein Hammer components are now on playa and I am departing in just a few minutes to pick up our software engineer, The Pawn, and join the rest of the crew there for our field test. It will be a busy time in the beginning but we hope to find time to play with other Burners there as this is somewhat of an annual pre-burn event with fireworks as some celebrate the anniversary of our cessation from England's rule in 1776, what we call "Independence Day" and this specific event is called 4th of Juplaya.
I have all the equipment I need to gather those final core samples of the playa surface you requested, and it is on the top of my list of things to do. Do you have Fed Ex delivery or would you prefer DHL?
Be well and do strange things,
-Mister Jellyfish.

Well between that and my Pickelhaube, were almost like a detachable peni. The steel one was more of a statement...that we need to get over this hangup on making symbols of anything and everything. Our military did...got a stahlhelm of our own now!Jesus wrote:I thought that thing was permanently attached to your head. Get it installed, Jeff!TomServo wrote:Fuck it! I'm bringing my stahlhelm again.
