Birgin from Brooklyn flying solo
Greetings everyone!
I'm a 28yr old sound mixer/director from Brooklyn New York and I'm excited to finally be coming to burning man this year.
So far it's just me so if there's anyone from nyc that's going or there's an open camp please say hi. I'd love to make some friends before I get there. Esp around my age.
Hope to talk to, and see, you guys soon!

I'm a virgin too. Thought I was going in 2011 to Black Rock. Turned out this year was my year and I will be there in less than three months. I'm not joining a camp but if you let me know a time we can meet up in center camp and explore the city and its art together. I'm 27 and from TX. Hope to hear from you and enjoy the experience!
We break to remind us how to mend.

Hey guys!
Great to hear from you!
I'm planning on flying down and then either taking a shuttle or hitching a ride from someone with a car.
I've heard there's a container service in nyc that will take stuff and transport it to burning man for you. If they're still doing that this year I'll use them, since there's no way I'll be able to get everything into bags I check on the plane. Plus I'll probably need to go shopping at a local grocery store to stock up on extra food/water.
I'd love to meet up with anyone beforehand and if we get along then we can meet around reno since we won't be able to use cell's at the playa.

The rideshare board will be up soon, plus keep an eye on Share Resources as rides are requested and offered there informally. The shipping container thread is in Share Resources, you'll need to search for it in that forum. They do fill up and have guidelines and you may contact them for prices.
Shuttle? There isn't one from Reno. Used to be BioBus but they had permit and license problems last I heard.

Most of the time, camps are informal and are just groups of people who are friends camping together, or solo campers who have banded together to pool resources. Theme camps are different, most of them are core groups who know each other, and they might take on other campers who pay camp fees and pitch in to work their asses off. To get into a theme camp, you find their contact info using the theme camp lists on the main site from the year before, and then, well, contact them. However, many of them have filled up by this time of year. You don't need a theme camp, you can camp solo.

So many first timers panic a bit about not being part of a theme camp. From the moment you arrive, you will start talking to people nearby and will make new friends. It's a sprawling, vast 7 square miles to explore and discover. You will meet new people all along the way.
If I had a choice now, I would actually ditch my theme camp and go solo. Relax now and chill out about the camping in groups thing. All is going to be OK!

All you guys could start a camp together. You all seem to have a common interest in camping with people and collaborating in a small group can really give advantages. Plus it is super fun to share stories of adventures on the playa with other camp mates.
One way to establish and get everybody to the right place is below.
The first person or group on playa finds a good place to camp that has room for everyone and maybe more. Once camp is secured immediately register your camp location in the Playa Info data base using your secret camp word names or whatever that is agreed upon before hand. Camp mates coming in after the first group can then go to Playa Info and find the exact address of camp by searching for the "secret camp word."
Study the map a little when it comes out or look at last years map to figure out how to estimate an accurate address. Example--- If camped dead center in a block the address would be the two lettered streets and a time either X:15 or X:45 or Between F and G @ 7:45. Clear as mud?
Street side addresses go something like 7:45 and F. It could be a variation like 7:35 and F if you were near the corner but not right on it.

Hi!
There are 4 of us going from NYC. We are first time burners!! We basically have our whole trip planned out. We keep reading mix things about joining theme camps and group camps. We have friends going out there from the west coast but they are all in different camps. We would love to meet up with NY people and hopefully make our own group camp. If not, then I guess will just wing it when we show up. Advice and tips on anything would be great… Thanks!

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Look upon this as the great opportunity to do a parody map of the New Yorker's View of the Playa...

Hey
I was going to post a post about finding a camp. I went last year with a friend from Australia, and truthfully, we never really hung out. Made our own friends from people camped around us. Actually worked out pretty well, had a lot of fun. Going solo this year, and a little daunted by the shear planning of it overall. I'm located in Boston, not too far from NYC and would be open to planning a meet-up in Reno to make an informal camp.
I'm having thoughts of renting an RV out in Reno but nothing concrete yet. Have BM ticket but not plane ticket. Providence wills right?

Re: Hey
Welcome! But good luck with the RV, If you haven't already reserved chances are pretty slim at this point. I'd also get a jump on your plane ticket. Remember, it's still Labor Day weekend and a lot of defaultia also visits our little corner of the earth for several other events going that weekend.Green Fairy wrote:I'm having thoughts of renting an RV out in Reno but nothing concrete yet. Hi!
Anyone driving from New York to BM and have space for one extra? I'm coming all the way from Ireland to some friends in New York and looking to catch a ride from New York to BM if possible. I’m going to BM alone so im looking to meet new people. Obviously I’ll pay my fair share, there won't be any problem with that. If anyone has space for me, just email me on [email protected] and I’ll get back to you.
Cheers,
Micheal Freeman
