I was arrested, but subsequently let go only because something more pressing came up, for setting off fireworks just before that oil rig thingy went up in 2007. They take their laws seriously. Have I done stupid things? Sure. In fact, I have now a mantra I use at TTITD:
Only do one stupid thing at a time.
But if you're going to be stupid enough to bring pyrotechnics into Burning Man, you may as well get them where they are the least expensive in order to make parole. Just sayin'.

I understand your point about sheep-mentality, but I think what others were pointing out was that you really have to be fairly stupid and careless to get arrested at BM. Want to smoke dope or do drugs and not get caught? Easy! Do it in your tent with the flaps closed. Don't do it at Root Society or Opulent Temple where undercover LEOs congregate. Don't do it in the middle of the playa.

I agree, so last year I asked some folks at the Nevada ACLU "are dilated eyes probable cause for search in the state of Nevada." I asked the Nevada ACLU because on the BM main site there is a link to the Nevada ACLU if you get in trouble at burning man.diamondmoth wrote: The only real advice I can really stand behind and not feel like a sheep is: Become Informed!!! It's your right to knowledge.
In CO dilated eyes are only cause for a sobriety check if you are driving, boating, flying etc. Then if they determine you're not sober, they search your shit.
Their response is that they could not give me legal advice. I didn't want legal advice, I just wanted to know Nevada's law.
But I still agree that you should be very educated. And once educated, you should be very smart. And once your smart, you shouldn't have to worry.

Hey yaggie, don't take offense, but you don't know what you're talking about with the perimeter people. They are more like emu's than tigers. Just look at the face and tell me I'm wrong.

good point, Shambala........I was just going on the "legend" basis for perimeter folks........[/quote]

+2. Great idea! I wish I had snapped a photo of "Jan", the not-so-hippie-looking, all too clean undercover wench who actually walked into our RV WITHOUT KNOCKING on Monday (2008) as we were packing up to ask us if we had "any marijuana for sale." %@$#^ &#^#%$ *#&$$$^#!!dragonfly Jafe wrote:Take a photo of anyone that asks you about drugs...gyre wrote:Undercover is usually easy to spot.

And shoot sparklers out of it?AntiM wrote:My koi banners still have burn holes in them from when some fucktard set off fireworks over Hushville in 2002.
I'll get the shotgun.
AntiM, its probably cheaper just to buy some bottle rockets.

Wonder who would get in more trouble the person shooting fire works, or the person shooting a gun?AntiM wrote:I already own the shotgun and ammo. But, if you get rid of the body quick enough i'm sure you can say that the sound of the gun, was really the sound of some more fireworks!

Or, you could shoot the Sesame street theme song over a directional horn right at them tell they run away. And any Sesame Street fall out wont be too damaging to the neighbors since your in Hushville.

I did this to the dorm of kids next to me in 2004 during the last ALCS game. Worked well, I got to see my fireworks, and risk of setting off illegal aerial fireworks on a school campus staffed by CT state police was transferred to someone else...
A wonderful idea...
