Hey there!
I'm a student at ISU and four year burner (just regionals though). I enrolled into a new design class that is concerned with constructing artwork for the playa. There's 14 of us hard at work on various pieces, ideas, and installations. We're beginning to realize the financial task at hand and would appreciate any help we can get concerning transportation (ppl and art), supplies, and fund raising!

Okay, great taht you are working on art.
My advice:
1--Have a plan of what to do if you have absolutely no help; a sort of ultimate fall-back.
2--Be specific. How much money? what supplies? what time frame on the art? how many cubic feet and how heavy? How many people? what baggage.
3--Show us that you are working hard and not just looking for a hand-out. (No offense meant, it's just that we see a lot of pleas for funds and many of us have got to a place where we just don't want to give anything to the loafers. No, it's not a contradiction to "the burningman spirit." It's that in a very generous community there has to be some sort of fence deciding who's a member, or the whole thing will be sucked dry.)
4--Most of the fund raising seems to be parties: rent space, hire dj, and get on every venue you can in order to publicize it. If you've got people who can do that, great. If not, ~. Maybe you could make miniatures of your projects and sell those or make buttons of photos or drawing of your projects and sell those. Know now that I know of at least one artist who hired a grant writer for his art proposal this year. It worked, and the circumstances are different, but funding art is always a problem, and the sooner you learn that, the better.

So I guess I'm just pinging to see whats available. I'll pitch the idea of posting pictures today to the rest of the class.
I'll post later today with a better description once I talk to them, so as not to misrepresent anybody.

I am curious to see the syllabus, and know more about the instructor. And grading, that should be an interesting concept. Participation? Preparation? Grasp of the Ten Concepts?

It seems to me that putting your contact info in the open could be a problem. At teh very least you'd be safer from email harvesting bots if you had that address in the form of person (at) soulsuckingcorporatemonsters (dot) com, so it's readable by humans but not bots.
You can't change it now, but it's worth remembering.

I'll be passing through Iowa on my way to the playa from Toronto. I'm hoping to pass through a bit early (around Aug 20 or so). I don't have a ton of space as it's just me in a Mazda 3 hatch, but I'm happy to share what I've got. I could take a person if they don't have a lot of stuff. I also have a 4-bike rack so I could take two bikes if that helps.
The only catch is that I'm stopping for a few days in Boulder and a few more in Utah on my way to Gerlach.
So I could take a few bags of stuff or whatever.

Is this Krukowski's class? Did she really send you to eplaya? If she is offering a class in this, shouldn't she already have this stuff lined up?

See, here's the thing. The 10 principles are right there on the page for that class. Now, for folks who have been there several times and made up that list, they would be naturally rattled off. But I believe they forgot how they arrived at those 10. They don't come all at once. They come one at a time almost like steps of a ladder. Sort of sequentially.
It is the radical inclusion that brings people like you in. Notice that self-reliance comes before communal effort. That is in my own experience how it happens in real life on the playa. Once you have shown yourself to have at least some level of self-reliance, people will pitch in to help you. They are generally reluctant to jump in for every single call for help else there would be 90 people sitting around asking for help and 10 people doing all the work for them. There's enough of that already out there with a small percentage of people doing a large percentage of what needs doing.

If this is for this year, you are rather late in the game. Ask yourself how people from all across the country get their stuff out there every year without the benefit of a college course in Burning Man. My suggestion for you (and your teacher) would be that it should be a two year course. The first year you just go to burning man without doing any major art project. That year is acculturation. That is where you learn not to lose your backpack, keep your cup with you, have extra toilet paper, and learn to do it all by yourself. If I were doing that class, it would not be a theme camp thing the first year, it would be a bunch of people camping together in the general camping area.
