I can't wait

I don't really know what I'm getting myself into, but as I have read on the website I will most likely be 8) ..

Let me begin my introducing myself, I am Curtis, known in the rave scene as Casanova, but I'm not sure if Burning Man is considered a rave scene, can some clariy that for me.. will there be people walking around like this --> lol

I'm comming with my girlfriend she has never been either and were just planning on meeting a bunch of cool people and experiencing the Tranquility of the Playa.. and I am a fan of Burning the Man cuz he is a ***** ..

So I bought tickets not even realizing that my birthday is on the 2nd day of burning man, who wants to celebrate it with me :?:

The playa will provide in some ways is true. Like any large city, if all you want is a party scene you won't be disappointed but you won't have the playa experience. Any city with 40,000 people and you can get anything you want out of it but in the end thats not what it actually is.

Burning Man is an art gathering with interactive pieces and loads of self expression. Its based on self-reliance (so don't come expecting anyone else to take care of you) and a gift economy.

To get you up to speed READ EVERYTHING you can on the eplaya and reread the survival guide till you can quote it.

Most of all go in with an open mind and heart.

Welcome to ePlaya!
Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do... Casanova.
The playa can be like a rave, if you want it to be. But after BRC no rave will ever be good enough again, trust me.
Is your girlfriend fully aware of what BM is and what the conditions are?

I'm sure you'll have an amazing time!

two things. !. Burningman is not part of the rave scene! there is great dance music and big clubs, but if you are coming so you can take four pills every night by the weekend you'll be a mess. 2. if you are looking for tranquility on the playa you are going to the wrong place!

You know JK, I need to comment on the inconsistancy of you greetings. Some people get them and others don't. This type of hit or miss activity is what put Howard Johnson's Restaurants out of business. Some were good and some were bad.

Rave?
Don't cheat yourself out of the Burner experience by coming to Black Rock City and doing the same shit you do every weekend.
Just saying.

Hi Casanova,

Welcome to eplaya and the start of your grand adventure that is Burning Man. Don’t take offense at having people emphatically confirm that Burning Man is not a rave. Once you’ve been it’ll make more sense. There is some really good electronic music there ranging from deep house to goa trance. There’s a lot of not so good electronic music too. And there's also (thankfully) a growing number of cool acoustic instruments and bands there so don't miss out on that part of it either. Two years ago our Mutant Vehicle (at that time human powered) towed a piano on wheels around Center Camp with a dancing girl on top and a fellow playing some fine tunes.

There is a range of experiences to be immersed in out there. You can even find solitude way out in the deep playa. There’s something very cool about being way out in the dark, feeling the city pulse with life from afar and a dome of stars above you.

Do your research ad start preparing now. It’s no cakewalk, especially when a 5 hour dust storm hits. But it’s worth every bit of the effort.

Don't listen to the bitter old farts. There will be no less than 42 raves going on at the same time for seven days straight!

Some of the dance camps are works of art.

BM is all about none be tellin' you what to do or not so long as laws ain't broke. Simple as that.

Don't let em mellow your harsh.

Pies, lust and unlimited raving!

Yikes!!

Okay, now I have to read Token another few times.. I swear to god it looks like English.. I mean, the words are from English...

Oh, and back on topic. Yeah, enjoy! A good way to have fun is by walking around asking people where the bouncer is, or where to buy drink tickets, or how much the admission is on the rides, or where the nearest starbu--- Okay, dammit, there is a freaking paid coffee shop.... but it's for the children!!! They say it's for the children!!

Yeah, I love it out there. They've managed to take all the best parts of all the best art galleries, parties, raves, temples of worship, and so on and gotten rid of the most irritating parts. Oh, except the undercover cops trying to rope you into breaking drug and underage drinking laws. ...There seem to be a lot more of those than I remember at Disney Land...
It was better next year. -Burners

At Disney land they go for the opposite of under cover.... under costume. In stead of making them blend in, they make them stand out and look like some of your childhood heroes.

Hmm.. I could swear I've heard Micky Mouse offer me methamphetamine before... Are you sure they are cops and not just underpaid child molesters they find passed out in city parks?

Either way! I'll take a few undercover morons trying to buy E from me over that any day. Little do they know that I'll just waste all their time!! Muhahah!!! I don't have any drugs!!! But I won't tell them that.. Bmuuuuhahahah!!!!! Oh, yeah, let me bring you to my friend, he's just.. oh, he's over here. Oh shoot, where is he.. hmm. Come with me... Oh, he's on that art car, look for the guy in a bright pink bodysock! Run for it! The art car is gett'n away!!

Either I just ruined some E-tards day or I just wasted a cops time. Win Win.

Oh, the disney cops are there.
They are all ex-ATT phone cops or ex-NKVD.

Just walk into disney world wearing a custom mickey mouse shirt.
I didn't get far before I'd been tracked down and photographed by plainclothes disneys.

I think they were mostly interested in whether it was mass produced or not.

You'll have fun out there. Just remember that you could be talking to some really interesting, sexy, cute rave-girl with wings and fuzzy boots but that doesn't mean she isn't a cop. Keep your wits about you. (I'm serious..)

Yes, there are. In general, take this as a thought about there being no way to tell "cops" from "participants."

Maybe.

A friend recently cut off his beard and hair for the first time in twenty years, leaving only a ten inch long mustache.
No one in this part of the country has ever seen his face before.

I lean over to his girlfriend and ask,
"So?
The mustache?
Cop or gay?"

She fell out.

Chupacabra Policia once wrote me a ticket for an ugly art car...
I'm wondering what other tickets you could write.
Naked people could get written up for being "Out of Uniform."
You could write up djs for "Startling Lack of Originality, Overinflated Ego and Entrancement."
