as usual, you miss my point ...

just because some commentator appears on msnbc or cnn does not mean he is not rude. there is plenty of rudeness on opinion programs.

the question is whether or not such rudeness is acceptable on a discussion board. i think the vast majority find it terribly counterproductive. you do not enhance discussion, you destroy it. you do not convince anyone, either. if anything, you leave those who disagree with you shaking our heads at the shallow arrogance of the far left. is that what your goal is? maybe you're really a closet conservative ....

moosey, there are plenty of sites around the internet where people have interesting arguments, and many others where people just call each other idiots all day. i tend to prefer the former.

The difference between Cenk and Beck and Limbaugh is Cenk uses facts to make his point and is quite accurate at that. Limbaugh and Beck lie A LOT.

There is nothing rude about that. It's just stupid.

And no, as I shall repeat again, I am not a repub, Dem nor Indy. Politics and religion is for suckers.

i agree, lying is rude. but how do you know whether someone is lying, or twisting facts, spouting an uninformed opinion, &c ?? you love to post news articles as proof, but anyone can do that. how do you know that your news sources are telling the truth, and others lying?

i've never seen anything posted by you that looked to me like proof of anything at all. nor do i feel like i can prove anything .... there is simply too much information out there.

can you prove you are right?

A good rule to live by is that everyone you talk to is AT LEAST twisting the facts. There are 3 sides to every story, his, yours, and the truth

Sweetie, nothing is as "rude" as starting an illegal war. Ask the parents of the killed and maimed soldiers. Nothing is as "rude" as a poorly regulated oil company killing life in the Gulf so that future generations of marine mammals and the people whose livelihood depends on the sea will be poisoned for decades to come.

Internet rudeness is a meaningless pissing event.

So now we must differentiate rudeness and ineptitude?
Equating something that happens directly proportional to the risk involved i.e. mile-deep oil drilling with interpersonal discourse is like equating the Space Shuttle disasters with Waco!

in other words .... it's OK to be rude, as long as you don't start an illegal war or cause massive pollution in the sea ...?

i have no plans to do either. i don't even have plans to start a legal war. nor do i throw my leftover paint in the drains that go to the ocean.

this is the sort of argument that drives me crazy, as it sounds impressive but has nothing to do with the current discussion!

but i do appreciate your politeness, as always.

this, is very well said........thanks FM.

It's interesting, how myopic some folks criticisms are.
and, it so often ends up coming from POV or political leanings........you give a pass to the guy you like, and ream the one you don't for, really, the same thing.
And then, arbitrarily choose how far back in history you want to go to criticize.........
Let alone, making assumptions regarding the outcome of events, had something else happened, or, been done by someone else.

you criticize the current conflicts, but, do you also criticize Gulf 1? How about the Balkans?, Rwanda? Perhaps go back to invading Grenada?
The failed attempt at rescue in Iran, had that worked, and started a war?
Should we have not protected Hawaii, or responded?
Who needed free France, or Europe, for that matter?
Maybe the Philippines would be better off under Spanish rule? Cuba?

Can you say "war is bad"?
does it not depend on the POV?
IE:
is it not right, to defend yourselves, if invaded? (except France).

Should we have ceded the San Juan Islands in the "Pig War"? I know, the Pig War was bloodless and just a bunch of shouting, but, still.......
is going to war, to defend yourself, not "righteous"? But, still, "war"?

And, crap, (not that I'm not a great thread drifter), I think this is way off the seemingly "tongue in cheek" post LF started with.

Yeah, some here post endless "cut and paste" articles, claiming to be totally accurate and truthful, then, claim omnipotent intellect and irrefutable argument.
Followed by a challenge to all to disprove.
And, this, to the detriment of conversations attempted by others on the same thread.
And, if challenged, responds with insults and degradation.
But,
this is also a free site. Say and do what you will (within the TOS).
so, if someone doesn't like what's on the thread, don't read it, or, plonk the poster.
Start your own thread, and, if they follow you there, and try to overwhelm that one, start another...........
What the heck?

Certainly, we've seen folks driven away from a thread by obnoxious or obsessive, aggressive posters. It has gotten some threads locked in the past, and, may well in the future.....

Excellent question.

Been following Al Jazeera since their conception and they have been through some shit.

They have been hacked.....BY AMERICANS NO LESS and it was nasty......but they do an excellent job of getting info out there.

They have excellent journalists from all walks of life that have awesome credentials.

Now this is a fact.

Take Dave Marash as an example.

David Frost even.....it goes on and on with these guys.

I like Reuters but am not that convinced most times.

I read and look at just about all I can take in from everywhere.

I like to compare everything from everywhere.

It's the only way to gather facts. It pays to be well informed.

hey Little....and I ask of this to everyone that is reading this thread....name all news sources you pay attention to.

Please!

Hopefully you can turn me to some new sources.

As The Little one says....

There is so much information out there on the internet and otherwise.

After all, it's the only way to prove me wrong about anything.

This is a fact.

i could have written this.

and that's the point. there is a lot of personal stuff that goes into our opinions. what we read, who we believe, what our friends believe. the information available is immense. and, as ygmir pointed out, we do not know what the reality would have been if different choices had been made.

as i have said before, i am close to someone who is very good, long term friends with some high level bushies, and the responsibility that sits on the shoulders of some people astound me. i don't criticize the obama administration much for that very reason. i don't think most people truly understand the sort of weight that hangs on the shoulders of some people. one of the aforementioned bushies recently had a brain tumor ... not malignant, but the incredible stress over 6 of those 8 years was no doubt a factor. i honestly think most of us have no fucking idea.
