Kickstarter for a foreigner
Kickstarter for a foreigner
three posts in a row.
I think I got inspired to start working on a new Dream :D
And thought I'd look at the Kickstarter site, because heard a lot of good stuff about it, BUT
this is what the Kickstarter site says about people not from the States:
Do I have to be US-based to start a project?
Currently, yes. Kickstarter's transactions are handled by Amazon Payments, which restricts the ability to receive money to people or entities with a US bank account and a US address.
So this is one of the reasons I posed the question on this forum. It's already so much more difficult to bring a big project to the Playa from across the ocean (trust me, I have done it a few times) and then funding seems also to be more difficult since I am not American. Damn :-(
But I'm sure there are ways to get support inside the US........
As I mentioned in the other post:
I'm nothing without YOU.......

I often read on websites of other Burning Man projects that they are a fiscally sponsored 501(c)3 organization
which means people can donate in a tax-deductible way.
Obviously again as a foreigner I can't do that, but am wondering if there are ways to work around that or if anyone on here has an organization that might facilitate this?

Foreigners bringing art to the playa
I think it depends on the size of your art. I am a foreigner as well.
There are some folks here from Toronto that are transporting a huge art piece down to the playa this year. It is called 'The heart machine'. They held a party to help raise the $10,000 or so to transport it there and back.
My advice would be to make your project small and manageable, and then mail it for general pick up in Reno, Nevada. You need a special clearance for this, basically stating that the contents of what you are mailing are not intended for sale. Make your art out of flammable material and immolate it at the end, so you don't have to bring it back.
Another option? You can register a non-profit corporation in the United States and handle all your paperwork through there. Depending on the size of your project, you can get some American friends to help you work on it, possibly even renting space in the U.S. You would be the Creative director/ Consultant.

indeed I am not planning on "something mall and manageable"
I am planning on something that will change people's minds and ideas like with Dreamyourtopia. I know there's more people posting for help, who sometimes get slashed for just using the community with their first post.
I am happy to notice in the answers on my three posts that a lot of people are aware of the energy I have put into previous projects. And I really would like to bring a fourth project from across the ocean, but this time really need support from Americans, otherwise I won't manage.
After the Burn I will post a specific thread with all the details of the project, but now am just trying to see if there are people and/or communities willing to believe in a new project of mine.
some specific links to previous projects:

If this idea was pursued there is a lot a lot of good information in this article here.

One of the reasons I started posting on this eplaya recently was to check if I might find a group of Burners in the US, who would believe in a new idea of mine, based on my previous projects, and would prefer to join forces across borders and oceans to see if they could help make that dream become reality.Nothing wrote:Maybe you should look for a theme camp or sound camp who might be willing to hook up and combine forces to support
this project with a fundraiser in the States.
After this years burning man I will post all the details of the new project, but now am mainly trying to see if I might find that support inside the US

Thanks for the compliments. I do indeed hope I earned some credits in the last decade with the US Burner Community. I did get some emails with possible leads to spaces from the LA Burner Community, so am in virtual contact over there. Those were from a post on the LA mailing list. So nothing yet through this forum, but for Dreamyourtopia I did get help through eplaya, so I definitely hope at some point someone will step up! It feels like searching a needle in a haystack, but even though the haystack is huge, I know there are a bunch of needles out thereUgly Dougly wrote:Dadara, your work is always so cool and top-notch, I am frankly aghast that nobody in the states has stepped forward and offered you space.
