Like most people posting here I too am guilty of being a first timer who has put of the burning man experience for far too long. 10 years now I have followed the burning man movement and not made the time to go. I will be camping on my own and intend on particapating in my own way. what ever way that my end up being. Costumes or nudity is of no interest to me although the idea of an alter ego has its appel. Mostly I plan to be a spectator. Although I do plan to bring some extras and some gift ideas for thoes who really make an impresion. Mostly this will either be my only visit with the BRC or I will become a member of the gifting comunity. What drives my visit is the question... is there a place for me in the burning man comunity? We shall see. I expect nothing and hope for everything. I will post my experience after the burn and if I decide to return the following years. Jerroc of Oregon.

Growing up in the mojave desert has its advantages. I know all to well the conditions that exist on the playa. I have back packed many weeks into yosemite and know the effects of high elevation freezing nights and super hot days. This trip I have a semi truck to keep me well rested and stocked. Mostly I have all I need already. Although I have long list of small items that are needed for play time outside the truck. Building a theme camp is tempting...but being a long time event organiser i know all to well the time, money and strees of this kind of under taking. Although the end result is pure joy I am not looking to be apart of any specialized events or group. The plan is simple look at cool shit particapate in the spirit of burning man, play hard, get little sleep, smile, drink beer and eat bacon. For the people camped next to me I may share my coffee, water, shade, snacks, and smiles. But come near my bacon and I will simply say you triped and fell onto a tent steak. Unless of course you are an ugly dougly then there's bacon a plenty.

For a laugh you can always read the "why is Larry Harvey ripping us off" threads.jerroc wrote:...but being a long time event organiser i know all to well the time, money and strees of this kind of under taking.

I've already read them, some are funny, others have valid concern on what they are paying for. At first glance it does seem a bit much, but with a little research you soon discover how much really goes into the even and why it cost so much. Needless to say the BM. ORG is more like BM. INC and is in big business. I'm sure they walk away with fat pockets. You can even break the core idea of what burning man is as one big tax loop hole, but really who should care. They are providing something of great value even if they are walking away rich. many of us are walking away rich with ideas, friends, memories and new out looks on life. I say let them have their money and give me some shit to burn.
