New York City Boy's First Time!

Post by badassmylittlepony » Sun Jun 13, 2010 6:27 pm

Hello Everybody!

I am a 24 year old musician/artist/actor from New York going to my first Burning Man this year.
I am super excited, read all the info on the site and giving some serious thought to what to wear in a desert.
I would love to meet people from my area before Burning Man to chat about it and share some info.
I am traveling with a friend and we would like to possibly join a camp or village or group or cult or pack or swarm or something!
Any information on making it easier or more fun would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Love.

I also hear rumor of Hunter S Thompson Tuesday, but it could be Fear and loathing Friday... Blasted ether... I can't remember....

It's a strict wardrobe. Anyone found under(or over) dressed will be strictly punished by public floggings, free alcohol, and/or loud music. ..If only they would tell us what the dress-code is...
It was better next year. -Burners

I beleive a large group of burners is called a gaggle.

You can wear whatever works for you. I was in a tuxedo for the burn last year, but wore just a hat and shoes one day. (shoes are VERY important) Let your creativity go wild or use this to address any fears you may have. A pink prom dress is just as appropriate as your default world street clothes. If you are short in height, you can wear 10 inch platform shoes to become tall for the week.

There is lots to read here. Dig in and feel free to ask questions.

Welcome and brace yourself for the time of your life. :D

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome, Badass. This is a little late, so you've probably already figured out that finding a group to camp with is pretty easy. Only limited by your willingness to do a little research. Many also like to wait till they get up there then volunteer once they get a feel for things.

Livers End bar is always looking for new friends (fresh meat) to keep the mix both new and old. If you are interested in the idea of camping at a small, but well known little neighborhood bar, drop me a line, and we'll see if we mesh.

Basics - small bar that is heavy on personal responsibility and light on rules and formal structure. Bartending is easy and fun, but also expected, though you pretty much pick your hours. Its also a great way to meet your community. No commissary.
