Did you know, if you got a really crappy part-time job for one week, like fast food or some nonsense, you could buy a jetboil. :D

Sewed a cool Burning Man shoulder patch to my night-time jacket (OK...I paid to have it done...right.)

Come see it!

Good deal! :D Those water bottles look cool.

We got a couple of insulated, BPA-free water bottles @ Target, with carabiners and pop-up straws. And replaced our old, broken bicycle pump so we can see if the ancient tubes on our 1965 bikes will hold air (hmmm...). And we took all of the reenacting stuff out of our trailer so we can fill it up with Burner stuff for a local event in a couple of weeks.

Wheeee!

We're packing our day pack, one or two items a day. Also hitting the thrift shops for costume apparel and accessories. I don't know if Value Village is nationwaide, but here, they have the best used stuff and any of the stores. They have call lists and routes they make regularly, so they pick up at the people house if they set it by the curb. Much better quality stuff that way than what people drop off at goodwill, etc.

Today I worked on two hats making straps to hold them on my head. One of them has a huge brim but is unfortunately black. I've been covering it with some sheer pink fabric that has silver metallic designs on it. That should help reflect the sun a bit. The other is RED!!! ;-)

I understood this part as being generous: "I met her at a dennys and bought her ticket" and yes the fact that she's not coming is a shame for sure.

Emily, post a pic of the hats/straps, please, as I'm focusing on hat options now. Today I finished my tutu, road tested my insulated drink holders (that came inside my super cool Igloo drink dispenser/insulator), and tomorrow I'm hitting thrift stores seeking an orange sarong for my man to sport on the playa, sexily of course.

Spent a week in Seattle dealing with stupid real estate legal bull poop.

BUT I'M BACK! Watched a Burning Man Documentary last night on the 2003 burn, was pretty interesting. No matter how many pictures or videos, I'm always shocked at how nothing can really explain what it's like. I also realized last night talking to my partners brother that I should mostly discourage any one to go. Sounds selfish but I think its not really for most people. And if they really wanted to go they would no matter what I say.

So now I'm super motivated to get my project done. Got my El Wire, this and a large stuffed animal unicorn are going to be my bike decor. YAY!

I've also been day dreaming about what kind of art installation I want to make...

ugh...spelling.

Spent the weekend at Element 11, the Utah Regional Burn. Gifted away many costumes and much gear at my NoCostCo project. Got a nice deep, hacking cough from the damp and rain. Yep, summer in Utah and we had cold rain for four days. Yippee.

Yes, which isn't exactly salt, but close enough for a regional burn held on a salt marsh south of the Great Salt Lake. We used to be SYNorgy, but the locals didn't cotton that moniker on the permits.

SYN = Smith Young Nelson. A Utah Family Reunion. Funny if you're an ex=Mo.

Here are photos of the first hat. It's made by Scala but any hat will do. This one came with a matching ribbon brim which I took off, cut in half and used as the neck ties. I then found ribbon to match it at the fabric store and made a new ribbon for the band. Here are photos:

Just today - I got a used sewing machine for $40 off CL. Super Stoked! It's a Singer and works great! I also set up my little LED solder project table. I am starting on my playafly! They said it takes a day and a half, but I think it is going to take me a bit longer.

I am getting so excited! Less than three months! OMG! Yay!

Tie-dye t-shirts turned out well (mostly)

Post by VArocketry » Tue Jun 15, 2010 9:14 am

Found reasonably priced long sleeve cotton SPF50 shirts on-line. And bought a starter tie-dye kit; checked out some How-To videos from public library and fired it all up this past weekend. It's quite an undertaking as I'd never done tie-dye before.

They came out great! Now to screen print my DHARMA BM logo design on and I'll be set.

Last night I ordered body paints and today I'm helping some UK burner friends with getting a motel room in Reno. Tonight I'll put back some of the stuff that I drug out of boxes this weekend - that was fun. Found 5 bottles of liquor I'd forgotten about as well as an ample supply of earplugs. On Friday I'm going to buy all of my non-perishable food items.

ohmigawd ohmigawd ohmigawd.

I bought a buff (survivor face mask thingy) and went goggle shopping but they were all too big. Also looked at some bikes in a different city, but still haven't found the perfect beach cruiser for a good price. I hate coaster brakes! but all the cheap ones have them! rawr.
