My husband has been trying to talk me into going with him to this event. He is obsessed with going. Can anyone tell me why I should go with him? Thanks!!

If you've seen the site and heard about it and no desire has aroused... you probably shouldn't be there. Of course... your husband knows you better than I, maybe you should go and have your eyes pryed open. :D

Some questions are best answered by the person putting them out there. If you're thinking about going because someone else wants you to rather than having your own curiosity and imaginings piqued by the event I'd say you're possibly setting yourself up for an experience that may not be the best for one for you. The opposite happens of course but I'd be asking myself if going there is more about your SO's wants and expectations and less about your own.

Read over the website, talk to a few people and then make up your own mind.

I'm not against him going...

Post by CJ » Fri Jun 18, 2004 4:06 am

It's not that I'm against him going, I just am not sure that I want to. I guess the thing that I am not so sure about is the flight to Reno. I've never flown and am a bit nervous. My husband told me to post here and then decide if it is worth it. He told me that everyone on the post would help me make the decision. So help me out everyone!!

Fly Baby Fly!

It's just a plane ride, and what a way to have your first flight on your way to Burningman.

You'll have a blast. Really.

I think I've decided to go...

Post by CJ » Fri Jun 18, 2004 4:19 am

I think that my husband has talked me into going... :? Now I am just furiously reading and trying to figure out what it is all about. I guess I should have paid more attention a year ago when my husband first started talking about this...

I just wanted to note that I used to have this big fear against flying. When I was young, I was on a flight from the Phillippines that had trouble and we had to make an emergency landing in Japan. I was pretty determined to never fly ever again. Years later I realized how much I was missing, all the things I had never seen, and at that point I had never been west of the mississippi river. I flew out to the west coast and was so nervous to start, then I became glued to the window and watching the scenery. I had my own little private magick moment as I began to see the bigger picture, all the places I knew or heard of as just tiny dots and part of this unbelievably vast landscape rolling by. And at the higher altitudes I would just stare at the clouds which I had only ever watched from below. I marveled that all this was not only possible but the culmination of years of dreamers and that the rest of the people on the plane, busy sleeping, typing at laptops, complaining about whatever, etc. cared nothing for the journey, only their destination. I have been on several flights since and I even though sometimes I am so excited about where I am going that I have to remind myself to relax and mind the journey, I always enjoy it. Hope you do too. Good luck and see ya on the playa..

Flying is way cool, although airports tend to suck. Have a sense of humor about it, learn some relaxation and calming techniques if you think they'd be helpful. That stay hydrated advice applies to long flights too .... although it always seems like I only need to pee just when they want you to stay in your seat ....

I always go to Bman with my husband, but we're a weird couple who like each other's company nearly 100% of the time. Be sure to discuss expectations of alone time and couple time, just so neither of you feels left out and/or burdened during the event. Funny how you can take your best buddy in all of life for granted.

And then there's sex ... ah, the joys of coupledness. Best lesson yet: two person tent! big tent + nieces = no privacy! But then there's so many options .... another good area to discuss and not take for granted.

welcome home!

Just go. Even if you decide it's not your thing, you'll never ever forget it as long as you live.

And if it's something your husband really is into, you will understand some things about him that you might otherwise never 'get.'

from experience, it is always best to bring a vagina to the playa... or not.

I've been looking through the forums, and which forum should a question like I originally asked be posted?

And don't worry Simply Joel, I'll be bringing 'it', but it is strictly for my hubby's use....

Only if you think it will make the experience more fun FOR YOU. I think I dressed up maybe once last year. Sure they're a great option, but they're by no means mandatory.

The only things that I can really say I regret in my past are the things I didn't do and those experiences are forever lost to me. Good or bad.

People Who Aren't Excited

Post by dsandber » Wed Jul 07, 2004 1:21 am

Just wanted to disagree with the person who said that if someone isn't excited by what they read about BM, they prob. won't enjoy it.

I spent a long time convincing my girlfriend to go. She was worried about 29323 different things. But we both had an absolute blast.

You can't understand what BM is about by reading about it and looking at pictures. There's an emotional aspect that isn't communicatible.

Christ, half of what I've read about Burning Man in the mainstream is enough to make me NOT want to attend. Rarely have I read a piece that got it right.
