I'm sometimes all about the vague and sometimes all about the downright obscene.

It seems Santa has passed out on the couch after drinking all the gin.

I really need a drink. working for myself is awful-

"get to work on those business cards!"
"aww, I don't want to"
"oh, ok then, lets go have a drink."

Also everyone should check out the band Florence and the Machine. I dont care what kind of music you already like, everyone should have a listen. it's just interesting!

sounds pretty down and dirty to me.

Misa--that Saint Mary's is known as Our Lady of the Washing Machine.

97, wow, that used to be the way to go to WA in the 50's 60's. My mother mentioned it to me when I told her I took 97 to visit my friend in Weed, Big Springs Road off of 97 ( I usually say Shasta) Her back porch has a huge giant Mountain behind it... HUGE. We love you Mt. Shasta!

well, anyway, I tried a new recipe tonight and it came out pretty good. Thai red chicken curry.

I kinda like Our Lady of the Washing Machine. And yes, it is really beautiful on the inside. The roof seems to float above the floor of the cathedral. Methinks it is a rather remarkable building IMHO.

Elorrum you done it again. The Thai Curry looks wonderful and beer does go well with that.

Dang, do miss that old YGMIR. He sure is one good old host. Hope he is having a good time!

Morning Marty! Good morning people! And yes, do hope Yggy is having good time...we should keep the Bar running until he comes back ;)

It is nice day, sunny, but not hot...wish you the same :)
Lets have breakfast outside today...

and coffee...

I am very excited about visiting SF. Why is it called Our Lady of the Washing Machine? There must be some story behind that name for sure. I love churches, even thou I never go inside (if ordinance/ritual goes on).

Elorrum, that is tasty looking soup...I take a bit for lunch...and Little Flower, I grab one of the Chang Beer (it is exactly the one I was drinking in Thailand all the time :) )

Gyre there is pretty funny mixture of paganism and Christian religion we have here and people dont even notice that. We are burning witches and drowning the winter...guys beat girls with wicker stick on Easter...on the other hand Christmas presents are brought to us by Baby Jesus and nobody think it is odd, even when Czechs dont follow religion...

There is a certain amount of pagan ritual integrated into society here, but I'm pretty sure nobody knows about the Earth Mother depicted up there on her throne.
The lack of familiarity with the details is one reason no one has taken a lot of notice.

Wanders in and sees that Misa made a wonderful breakfast so I'd better get the coffee going since YGMIR is not here to do it. Perhaps he'll join us from wherever he is right now and have a cup.

Gyre, you're intellect is so grand to behold! Misa, the washing machine reference is that some feel that the structure of St Mary's looks like a giant washing machine agitator. You will be able to judge for yourself.

Tilly Tyler tipped a tin of tnted Thai Tea. Tounge Twister, Gyre???

Warm and sunny today

Have a great day everyone

We are such image snobs in San Francisco. There's a new cathedral in Oakland that's getting called The Church of Christ the Vagina.

Marty, you won't get far in life with sarcasm!

The worst tongue twister I ever heard was one Cybill Shepherd used warming up.
Can't remember it, but seems it was potentially trouble if you got it wrong.
Very tough.
I could barely do it slow.
She zipped through it several times, very impressive.
I think it had a lot of Ms in it.

I remember the old one-

"I'm not a pheasant plucker. I'm a pheasant plucker's mate."

That is a good site.

When you look at some early christian practices, the connections are very clear.
Things like ritual magic and drug use in worship, for instance.

I saw a church in Rome with steps so worn you could barely stay upright using them.
They say it has been in continuous use for over 3500 years.
I did a little math, and then asked them what it used to be used for.
They pretended not to know.

They might not have known… likely nobody ever told them and they never thought it was ok to ask.

Cathedrals were designed with built in calendars that used the sun to map the important holy days. Using slots or windows in the wall in conjunction with the North-South-East-West orientation of the building, the sun would trace a year-long figure eight passing over specific dates marked in the floor. This in an age when the church publicly professed that the earth was flat. There’s a book called The Sun In The Church that documents this in more detail that I ever could.

Well, I am humbled by the praise then.
Not really deserved though.

I seem to remember the phrase 'other plucker' from her exercise.
Now I'm really curious.

Found this-

I'm not the fig plucker,
Nor the fig plucker's son,
but I'll pluck your figs
till the fig plucker comes.
