Oh damn anOTHER thing to add to my todo list. My liver is entirely out of shape for serious martini elbow bending.

My experimental bar stools are a success.
I called the mechanic I'm taking the van to; he seems like a nice guy. And if he makes it so the van is not an albatross, it's all to the good.

I got some goggles and boots I might wear, and found out the Cookieman people STILL haven't freakin' decided, three people are holding up the process, so ARGH.

It isn't Cookieman's fault, he is a lovely person. Just in case he reads this.

While I was on my trip to Oregon over the weekend, I made sure to stop at lots of the little thrift/antique/consignment stores that are down there. I got quite a few awesome items, but, this was by far the item I am most excited about!

$4 Cashmere coat with fur. Yes, $4! At this little awesome thrift/antique store that was literally in the middle of fields of crops. It was great. I see blinky lights and who knows what else being added to it! :) And, oh...the buttons are ugly! So I will (hopefully) changing those!

(note, the pic isn't the best...but, you can get the idea! It was 85 degrees outside and hotter in the house! LOL)

Awesome find! A couple of my staff and I drove to IL for a meeting earlier this week, and it killed me to have to go past the thrift stores there. Who knew what cool stuff they'd have? :D

On the plus side, we've swapped all of the Civil War stuff with Burner stuff for Lakes of Fire next weekend, and we're excited to try out our tents/shade structures/stove, etc. with a less harsh environment than BRC.

Nice find, Plumeria. You could also add some crazy color'd fur along the bottom, keep the ankles warm.

This thread is a good motivator. Picked up a used Wald delivery basket for my bike today. 8 bucks at the Re-Cyclery. All ready for ice runs now.

Went for a quick little beach camping trip this past weekend, dug out a bunch of BM related stuff for the trip, and glad I did as I discovered my tent had broken rain fly clips. Also, found some weak spots in my LED lighting. So I got those things fixed.

OMG that's fabulous and an amazing coincidence. I too found a cashmere coat for just a buck more than yours, and minus the fur. These will make terrific under layers. We're goin in STYLE! Yes, lights and shiny fabric meeee toooo! I see that yours is long like mine is. We need to make them hitch-up-able so we can ride bikes at night yes?

I've seen a couple listed on craigslist over the past couple weeks. Now is the time, since such baskets will probably be more sought after in July/Aug. Just go to the bike section and search "basket." Either that or get creative with mounting a milk crate, or some other random basket. Try doing a general search on CL for "basket," and maybe try checking the "only search titles" box to make your search more targeted. I saw this one and was thinking it would make a nifty bike basket if I could figure out how to mount it.

That looks like a great basket, since it looks like you could some what secure the top...I'd suggest getting the plain old rear bike rack then put a plank of wood under it and run bolts through the basket, through the bike rack and through the plank. That's how I mount a mlik crate to my bike.

I've thought about getting a second, crap job since my efforts to raise money are failing, but I don't really have time. Work = irregular schedule of 42-65+ hours, and full-time school in the evenings.

BUT today I got a commission for a project, so that's very, very exciting. Another crack in the fortress of financial impossitude.

I went through more of my stuff last night, I'd made for my Etsy store, and added it to my pile for Scratch's Costume Camp (Transformus).

Although if AntiM did miss the registration with Hushville, there are probably places taht would be more than happy to take her in. Not that I"m trying to recruit her. And not that she should move from a place that suits her so well.

Tall camping chairs - last time we used beach chairs (not as comfy)

2 ski goggles that fit over eyeglasses (I’m going to use a light scarf to cover my nose/mouth)

8 dollar store car shades to duct tape together and cover part of the tent

2 black hand towels to use as a wick to dry up the gray water faster (they are going to be GROSS by the end of the week) – I need to find a bigger one too

A black square tub to act as our gray water container (we’ll soak the black towels in there and then hang the black towels up to air dry – which should help with evaporation a lot faster)

Best bargain a few weeks ago - dollar store solar garden lights! I picked up 5 but I should have grabbed them all. Tried to go back once I saw how well they lit up, but they were totally sold out

If I bring drinks in aluminum cans, is there a place at Center Camp that recyles them?

MoonSplash, they're not black but there are some really cheap towels in darker colors at IKEA. Bathsized are $2.50 each and Hand Towels are $1.50. Nothing like slave labor in India!

Coming to the party late but, thus far I've:

Secured a spot with a camp
Bought two bandanas
Bought one chapstick
And started making lists...it's all about the lists.

Actually I found a blank moleskin book someone gave me a few years back with a Man stenciled on it and I'm using that as my planning book.
Here are the lists I'm making:

Things to do
Things to find
Things to buy
Food and Beverages

Honestly, this is my favorite part. The lists!

Added to the list this year is a (real) record of expenses. I want to see exactly how cheap I can do this.

I have excel spread sheets. One for my group as a whole and then one for me.

I am quickly realizing how expensive this is, but I love a challenge!

Was at home depot the other day. On an end cap was a package of 6 small LED flashlights for $12 with batteries. Since I tend to lose flashlights or loan them out and never see them again this was a great find.

I decided to finally take my own advice from years past and started buying food more than 1 week before we leave. There's now 8 bags of canned goods and granola-type things sitting in my kitchen waiting to be packed up. Next step: stuff that can be frozen!

Another idea (would work better with towels) is to leave one end in the grey water, and nail/hang the other end to two 2x4's (about 30" tall) driven into the ground 8" or so.

Cut diagonally across one end of the 2x4 so it has a point to it, so it goes in easier. Then the 2x4's will act as posts.
make sure to put the posts on the north side of the pond, so that the sun to the south will hit the broad angled side of the towel as it drapes in.
As water evaporates from the towel it will automatically suck more water up into the towel.
If you put hooks on the posts instead of nailing the towel in. Its easy to take the towel down at night, and put it up in the morning.
It'll just keep you from having to keep dipping the towels.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

you know, I believe there is.

I think it's called...

...

....

...Recycle Camp.

Aluminum only. (I think that it doesn't make economic sence to take anythign else out of the desert.) Proceeds go to local schools.

ohmigawd ohmigawd ohmigawd.

I bought a buff (survivor face mask thingy) and went goggle shopping but they were all too big. Also looked at some bikes in a different city, but still haven't found the perfect beach cruiser for a good price. I hate coaster brakes! but all the cheap ones have them! rawr.
Coaster brakes are fairly easy to remove. You just need a little time, a little space and a couple crescent wrenches/elbow grease.

You obviously wouldn't want to do this unless you have traditional cable brakes on the bike, as disconnecting the only braking system can be -gulp- dangerous.

Or you do want to, because your hardcore like that and don't care. IE, you rip the tags off mattresses, you eat undercooked eggs and meats, and attend burning man
