This is me introducing myself... :)

Post by ladonnamobile » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:42 am

Hello everyone... Happy Solstice! I'm coming to Burning Man this year - it's my first time, and I couldn't be more excited!!! I just found this discussion board and look forward to sharing ideas and enthusiasm with you all. I have yet to figure out how I fit into this beautiful madness, but I know all will be revealed on the playa. :D

Happiness!

Let me be the first to welcome you. It'll be my first year too and I feel your excitement. I'm trying to expect nothing and try to prepare for it like a long camping trip.

How did you hear about BM?

Hi Ladonnamobile!

Welcome to eplaya. Here you will find lots of terrific information packed in tightly around a bunch of rib-poking and snark. Be sure to read the First Timer's guide over and over. If, after researching, you still can't find an answer to a question, don't hesitate to ask. Plenty of helpful souls around here.

And yes, you'll figure out how you fit into the madness. Until then, just enjoy th planning and excitement of the lead up to your big adventure. Then head to the desert and let yourself be free of the default world for a week.

Hello everyone... thanks for the welcome! I'll definitely be checking out the boards for tips and info. Am looking very forward to a week of freedom - well, mindful and responsible freedom, that is.

ygmir... I trust you're joking??? I won't answer until you answer... ;)

Hi FaeTora - thanks. I'm happy we're sharing our inaugural burns! :)

I'm going with a couple who have gone every year for the past 7 or 8 years... I'd have to say they've been my primary information source for the event. But since I've decided to go this year, I've met more and more people who have gone, for most of them once was enough, but once was magical. I'm also thinking of it as a long camping trip with a bunch of people who really, REALLY want to be there... I'm not much of a camper though, so this will definitely be a challenge for me. But I'm so up for it! Where did you first hear about BM? Are you going with others who have been?

EEK!!!!!

Well, I am often awkwardly cheerful and courteous so I could probably distract and get away... I live, breathe, bleed and sweat maple syrup, and bear a birthmark which is in the shape of a maple leaf. Is that sufficient, or will I still be tagged?

Welcome to the Eplaya!!!

They are full of crap! There is no Canadian import limit. Perhaps a limit to the number of participants in the Beaver Eating Contest, but otherwise no.

You might get tagged, but its no biggy! It is all in good fun, but optional...

I think your starting out with the best kind of attitude! Don't forget to read the survival guide a few times.. Just make sure of your personal survival and everything else will come into place. There are lots of interesting people that just dissolve that shyness... ;)

Love Rice.

you may have to provide proof of the birthmark, via photos.

I first heard about it a long time ago but it literally was described to me as a big party in the desert. I said have fun and went on with my life. Skip to years later, I was in a ICU waiting room with the kids of a lady who is like my mom. They were looking as these massive tents and I inquired as to why one would need one that large. They explained they were going to Burning Man. I started to ask questions and the more I learned the more it just felt like something I needed to do.

I am going with two other virgins and one veteran. We all have different reasons for goingand I have met many burners (some regional and some who go to BM whenever possible). They are some of the nicest people I have met.

Because I know you probably don't know, there is a eplaya meetup on the playa but I don't remmebr the time and day. I'll have to look it up. I was was excited when I found that out because these people are a resource in themselves. They had so much knowledge and experience. And it would be nice to put a face to a name.

10 Weeks and I'll be on the playa!!!!!

Meet'n'Greet is at Doc Pyro's (Barbie Death Camp and Wine Bistro) on Thursday @ six.
Some people only remember it because it's at the same time and place every year. Others simply don't remember.

Why were these kids looking at tents in the ER? I'm trying to imagine this..."Hey, lets go to ER and look at tents. You bring the catalog, I'll bring the beer."

Its not the ER, it was the ICU. It has a different waiting room and rules, etc. The reality is the lady who is like my mom got sick right after Ike hit Houston and I had no power and no cell. She was in there 36 hours before I got the message and ran to the ICU. The first 24 were her worst, she almost didn't make it. ::sighs:: By then the doctors had told her biological children that she would be fine. So they were killing time and distracting themselves between doctor updates.

I miss her. She's the one that died two weeks ago that I'll be taking to the Temple.

It's okay. I'm a little touchy lately. My apologies. When she passed I knew the right thing to do would be to take her to the Temple as I owe her much, least of all the opportunity to go to BM as she bought me my ticket. She loved it so. On that Sunday when it burns, I will leave the playa with only my memories of her, its the only thing I asked for.

But back to topic. I hear Canada has a burn called Freezer Burn. Have you ever been ladonnamobile or is this your first burn ever?
