Camo nets
Camo nets
This year, Steve's Army Surplus has loaded up with nets for us.
He has green ones available in 2 sizes: 16 ft diamond which is 75 and 32 circles/ hex and those are 125..he also has some spreader bars to prop them up..kinda cool.
He also said he has some weird screens ..military ones 40 feet by 40 feet..so huge and they are made to block sand but allow a breeze through..those are cheap at 80 bucks!
His address is 3356 Kietzke Lane, Reno NV 89502 near Sportsmans right off the freeway.. and the number is 775-828-1199..

I think it would reek less if it wouldn't have been the poster's first post posting it, and second post defending is as NOT advertising. Hmmm.....

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thanks for sharing, ksteph. Don't worry about the negative folk. I'd prefer to know about resources, and I sure don't expect everything to be a give-away.
Camo net is a great alternative, but it is still nice to have one solid piece of shade for the 1-3 PM period. (We ended up clipping a sheet to the camo net during those hours to give us shade). Rest of the time, it was great to have the breezy camo.

ROFL Well im not saying that camo nets hide anything lol.. But it allows a breeze but blocks the sand and sun. This year I opt to try one of the tan screen shade thingies...they are huge....so I can have extra but they say it stops the sand from going through, lets only a little light in and has holes big enough that you can get some breeze action but not have your shade taken off in a gust...I think it will work better than a tarp....tarps suck...and I called around to HomeDept and Lowes and tarps are way expensive this year...

Not trying to be negative, just noticed that it was a new poster and listing products along with prices just mad me wonder, seemed abit fishy. Certainly don't mind folks posting good informational resources/info. It's helped me burn a bit more comfortable.poppadaddy wrote:Thanks for sharing, ksteph. Don't worry about the negative folk. The "real" way to put up camo netting is to use military spreader poles.Raven9940 wrote:For someone who knows jack about camping: How do you put camo netting up? I'm thinking about getting some to use as shade for my tent. But I have no idea what kindof polls or way of attaching them will keep it all up in the wind.

You stake the corners of the netting to the ground, or attach to something. You then use the spreader poles to hold the netting up in the air.
Can be seen here, Friends of Fidel at Dark skies:
But you can use the netting in lots of ways. It helps some to just throw it over your tent.

Hmm. Sure it was desert camo? Damn friends.peace wrote:Camo nets don't work at all. We used one last year and my friends still found us and drank all my beer.
We had a small camo net and it wasn't bad. Was able to sit under it and not die. Though campmates still came to my RV awning. Might have been my likker supply, though.

Knit Agricultural Shade Cloth 70% Or Higher. Available any where there is a green house industry. Can be made to spec with grommets and reinforced edges. Prices in my area seem reasonable. Perhaps a bit more costly than Camo netting and tarps but higher shade factor and way quieter than a tarp in wind.
