First time, from the UK!

Post by Fishy » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:53 pm

Greetings :) My name is Pete and i'm 19, I live in a village near London. I'm hoping to make Burning Man this year but I know going alone will have its challenges!

But I like a good challenge. SO, I'd love to get in touch with anyone else travelling from the UK/Europe so that i can soak up your wisdom or even find someone else going solo who wants to team up!

I am about to book my flight there and back so at the moment i'm flexible on dates!

I'm fairly well read up about surviving in the desert, my main issue is organising transport and carrying all the stuff.

Hope to bring some music, art, stories and giggles to the playa. Look forward to meeting people and sharing a smile :)

Hi Fishy...

Your username is also the nickname of a wonderful long-time eplayan, so I can see right off that you have good taste.

Best thing to do at this point is to read everything you can and plan very well, including a backup plan(s). Try checking the regionals webpage. You may well find folks in your area that are traveling to Black Rock City too.

And welcome!

A backup plan is something I hadn't considered yet, but it's a very good idea. just hope i dont have to use it.

You will. Trust. Make a backup plan for your backup plan as well. And, no, I'm not being sarcastic. Anything that can go wrong on the playa will, when you least expect it. Having more than your bases covered gives you the freedom to not stress when it happens.

That doesn't mean you have to bring lots of stuff, but figure out what to do in a worst case scenario and plan from there.

There are other London burners, I agree with LeChat- see if you can find a regional contact over there.

Oh, read the Survival Guide until you know it by heart!

so cute. if only i were young again. so yeah plan on extra time getting to and from the playa. get the tickets so that you can change them without much hassle, or else be ready to pay extra. hopefully a rideshare will happen for you, you should go to reno and not san fran. if a ride share fails coming up to when you leave then just come and have enough money to take a cab to walmart to get your shit. ie tent food and water. you will have a great time!!!!!!!!!!

As the other Fishy, welcome, and pay heed to Eric.
Don't get your ticket for Monday 6th. There are a lot of people trying to get out of the place all at once and there are traffic slowdowns and sometime hidious accidents. Fly out Tuesday or later, spend a night in a hotel, get clean and freak out at the contrast (or not) between gambling havens and Black Rock City.
Oh, and you can come by the Booby Bar and say hi. I'll bore you with stories about my sister in Oldham and everyone else there will ask if you brought Pim's.
Good times. (Insert winky icon here.)

Thanks for advice everyone, awesome to get some info from seasoned burners.

To fishy; I would love to come say hi! unfortunately i don't think cucumber will fare well in the desert so Pimm's might be off the menu.

see you in the desert!
