What are you craving by Wednesday on the Playa?
What are you craving by Wednesday on the Playa?
What food/drink are you craving by Wednesday? Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make it to the playa until Wednesday morning. BUT, I figured I might as well make the most of it. Since I will have access to fresh food and cold beverages while everyone else will have been living out of ice chests for 3 days, I figured I could bring some of that freshly baked or frozen/cold goodness with me to share. So, I’m asking the experienced burners: By Wednesday, what food/drink are you usually craving? Ice cream? Fruit? Cupcakes? Maybe the classic ice cold beer?

My first year I developed a terrible hankering for Sprite, which I rarely drink. Someone from my camp announced they were taking the shuttle into Gerlach, & did I want anything? Hell, yes. So I bribed them to get me a 6-pack of Sprite and some D batteries ('cause I'd fallen asleep the night before with my flashlight on & it was weakening). Best soda of my life. Positively godly. So now I always have Sprite, needless to say.
Cold beer--in cans--would probably be even more popular (warm beer is considerably more common), and ice cream (especially in bar form, so you can pretend you're a kid) seems downright magical out there, if you can actually maintain it. I don't usually have the infrastructure to make the attempt.
The year someone rode into camp on a bike with chilled cantaloupe pieces on a tray, just gifting--that was also nice. It was so sweet and random.
Mixers are good. They tend to run out even before the booze.
A lot of things go over well out there . . . although one of the guides specifically recommends avoiding more fruit than you can eat or gift in a timely fashion. Spoiled food sucks to haul out.

We made the mistake of cutting up a canteloupe on the playa on Tuesday, by Thursday the rinds were REEKING! Bad, bad, bad stinky! Note for the other list, if you bring melon, cut it up and throw away the rind before entering the playa.Savannah wrote: Spoiled food sucks to haul out.
I was strangley craving sushi towards the end of the week.

Alright, I'll definitely bring some cheap yet delicious hamburgers, some ice cream bars (any particular suggestions?) and maybe a small amount of fresh melon (prepared BEFORE the playa). I would have never thought that people would be craving soda. I guess flat water and juice could get old after a while.
Sorry, probably won't be able to deliver on the vagina requests. I figured you fly fellas (and ladies) would be able to deliver that on your own

Wednesday cravings -
french fries - somehow I kept smelling them but missing them at Ketchup.
cold fruit - Otter Pops are good (I loved gifting them!!) but the Real Thing is phenomenal after you've swallowed a gutful of dust already.
Also, I didn't know how bad I was craving meat till we got to Luv's and I smelled Arbys... MMMMmmmmmeat!

I crave Mexican Coke (the one with the real sugar, not corn syrup) and some really good cream soda.
Just like some other posters, I drink carbonated beverages rarely in default, but they are sooooo good on a hot day.

Fresh fruit, berries, milk and such, you bet.
In 2006 we had a camp member arrive mid-week by airplane -- carrying a huge tub of hot corn-on-the-cob from a caterer in Reno.
You are on the right track.
The remains of fruit are best put in a plastic mesh bag and allowed to dry in the sun. In a few hours, there is not much more than dust left of it.

Crab. Pretty cheap at some Reno supermarkets. Casinos up there go through a lot of crab.

BRING SALTY FOODS! Your body will be sweating to a degree your not used to, and you will need to replenish the salts your losing. Good pickles are great (real brined ones, not the nasty vinegar ones- I prefer "Bubbies"), sauerkraut if you like it (I do- also "Bubbies"), peanuts, chips, crackers......FaeTora wrote:I rarely but sometimes do crave Salt.
Don't go by your cravings at home, you will need and want different things on the playa.
I think Phil said it in another thread- it's always better to bring too much food than too little (especially in your first year). You won't know until you get there what your body requires.

Pre-prepared Pasta w/ Ragu Meat Sauce, small pieces of steak, Frank's Red Hot Sauce, the juice of 1/2 lemon, heated up for 3 minutes in a pan... soOOoOooooOOooo satisfying on multiple levels...
Anything BBQ'd with Garlic Salt.
Waking up NOT hungover.
Playa-sexo (w/ my SO of course).
A better mode of transportation around the playa.
Otter pop or sno cone.
More playa-sexo since I just got some.
An invitation to some new experience.
Deoderant (for others, not me. I'm ok.)
Did I mention more hot, dirty, wet, salty, crowd-gathering PLAYA-SEX?
