Gas Station

Is the gas station in Empire or Gurlach open all night for credit card users? I would like to top off before going in. I'm hoping to be at the gate at about 12.15AM

Brunos gas station is the only place to get gas in Gerlach. The pumps work at night UNTIL someone tries to use a cancelled, or overlimit card, then the pump says "PLEASE SEE CASHIER" the rest of the night. The best part is the asshole that locked up that pump, inevitably tries the other three readers jamming them until Bruno comes down in the Am to reset.

Doesn't have to be over limit.
Buying gas in fifty states in a week seems to trigger an alert.
Didn't get my card straightened out until I got home.
Had it over ridden once I figured out what was going on.

They originally said I had a large charge at a fast food place.
Turned out to be a gas charge.

If you are worried, make sure to fill up in Fernley before you head up 447. If you are coming from Reno just take I-80 just past the 447 exit (Wasdworth) to Fernley. There is a truck stop at the first Fernley exit.

A warning about all cards too.

Gas stations tend to hold charges and run them one a week.
The card companies know this and don't tell anyone.
I kept having overcharges and someone at the card finally told me.
No issues since then.

Got the charges reversed because they didn't tell me too.

Plus thats what you'll need if you need to purchase ice while on the playa

Hell, with better shade last year I still had ice after I got home, and the cooler was in the car in the sun then.
All from crystal before the burn.

I think they extend their hours to dusk/night, but I don't think they are 24/7. I pulled through at 10ish a couple years ago and they were closed. Better to hit the gas station in Alturas, I think the pumps work with CC 24/7, or at least they are open later.

I think you can use your card in Cedarville. And I know Sunday night/Monday morning going down they were open, maybe 3 AM. I stop in Cedarville and fill and can make it back so I don't have to deal with the zoo that is Gerlach at 5 AM Monday morning. Or Monday when I have to leave.

And Cedarville really likes burners.

It is less than 100 miles from Fernley to Black Rock City, fill uo there and you can avoid the lines in Gerlach and Empire, and still have enough gas to make iy back to Fernley and you can save a buck or two. The Empire store is usually quit a bit cheaper than Bruno's.

Thanks! Good to know they are extending their hours! I come in on early arrival, so the Thursday before they are usually packing it in around sunset... Always stop at the general store though... Yay Cedarville! Has anyone had their burner BBQ? I always miss it

There's a great restaurant in the middle of town, for some reason the name escapes me but you'll see it... there's book all over that you can look through as you eat lots of good and cheaply-priced food.
There's a NAPA store there, and pretty much everything else you'll need.

Cedarville in general is an excellent jump-off point to the playa.
I never stop in Gerlach, it's a crowded mess.

I have found that a couple 5 gallon gas cans take care of the topping off the tank problem.

This morning we stopped to use the outhouse set up outside the Empire store. I noticed the gas was listed at $3.26pg and the nozzel was lying on the ground.... sooo take it for what its worth
