woot.com has been rotating through specials on very Burning Man awesome stuff, in addition to stupid tvs and computers.
Got a Womens Trinity Camelbak in gray/silver for $35. Not refurbished, brand new. Normally $100. I recommend keeping an eye out for this to pop up again. When they have "woot-offs" they rotate through all their items, so it may come up again like it did the other day.
Also got a ten dollar wind up LED flashlight for ten dollars.

We tried out our shade tents, shower tent, and new stove this weekend at Lakes of Fire in MI. Everything worked great! We'd like to get one more shade tent, some clips to hold the edges where they come together--and our daughter needs a different tent. The one we have is entirely mesh on top with no way to close it up--just a cheap rain fly that goes over it. Not too much left to get, though.

I've got alomst all my led's from hong kong ebay, take's two weeks for delviery to California. I've been happy with all of them, and I have alot.
as for my 1aday, I got (4) 20 foot lenghts of PVC for FREE!! looks like I will be building a monkey hut. I'm not going to do it this week, since the weekend is over, and I won't have time through the week, but it's #1 for the to-do's next weekend.

These are not solar, but I still have the same IKEA batteries in 4 strings from last BM, and they are all still working just as bright as when I got them and put the batteries in.

Very, very bright as well.

Bought a 110 watt solar panel and controller on ebay, new, still the box. With the inverter running smaller AC laods, this should eliminate the generator for all but Air conditioner, which I hate anyway. I'd rather lay naked under the awning with a spritzer bottle.
Speaking of that, looking for ideas/plans for a misting system under the awning so we can lay naked and keep the generator off.

Hmmmm...I like it! How much water do you go through during the week?AntiM wrote:We use a patio umbrella mister system, hooked to a garden sprayer. Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
I installed a metal tire valve on the garden sprayer, so no pumping. A quick shot of air recharges the sprayer. The emitters on misters are about 1/2 gallon per hour each, but some are adjustable.

Good idea Figjam. I have a small 12 volt compressor that would work well for the air. I wonder if one of the small 3-5 gallon propane tanks would work I have an old one of those around, but not a clean garden tank. I don't know if a tank that had round up in it could be cleaned well enough. Maybe I'll have to hit the pawn shops and thrift shops once again for a tank.
I think I'll still experiemnt a little with filtering the shower water. I have a really good excess cartige filter and 12 volt pump to keep cycling the water from the storage tank through the filter and back. If I can deskunk the water enough, it would be better used in the misting system, than a sun evaprator.
Finished a hot red faux fur outfit for Much today. Top, shorts, and leggings.
Thanks

We bring a full five gallon one, then top it off with melted cooler water all week. I don't know how much it is total. Only about six nozzles? As for Figjam's half a gallon per nozzle per hour, well, no way are we using that much with our system. It might use that much full time, but we find sporadic use is more efficient than a continuous run. Otherwise we get puddles and I chill.dragonpilot wrote:Hmmmm...I like it! Ordered my flag today, from Hong Kong/eBay. Orange and white checkered. Now I need to figure out how to get my graphic onto it in a way that will weather the, uh, weather. I'm in charge of the flag and he'll get it up onto a pole so we can find our camp, he said. Wondering how I'll light it up from 10 to 20 feet up.. Ooh, solar!
If you think you've overdone it, double it.

Silkscreen kits at M's aren't cheap. You can make a homemade one with stretch fabric and modpodge.
We had a commercial flagpole made for home use, one of those wooden ones which is supposed to be super-strong. Attached it to our trailer. The wind ate it in a day. The homemade kite it was flying fared better. I've seen fiberglass poles snapped in half. I know it can be done, we just haven't been successful enough to keep trying.
Solar lights would work. Personally, I can't see our camp lights until we're half a block away. In that visually chaotic place, I have trouble navigating at night.

We got our (ancient--seriously, ca. 1965) bikes blessed by the bike guru last night! He said we COULD do some stuff, but since they're for the Playa and they run, we didn't need to. And we picked up a couple of inner tubes and some silicone chain lube. Woohoo, ready to roll!
QUESTION: Now that we've used our shade structure, I totally get the value of spring clips. But I don't remember what they look like (can someone post a picture?) and have no idea where to look for them. All ideas welcome.
