Thanks, AntiM! I keep forgetting about Harbor Freight. We tried to stop there a couple of weeks ago, but they're not open on Sundays.

Our local one is. They don't have the clamps in stock just now, but that varies by location a LOT.

I found a neat youtube tutorial that has you make a little under skirt then cut 80" x 10 I made mine 12" strips and sew ..bunch,,,sew bunch...add the next layer about an inch below or to your desired poofyness hehe. I made my skirt out of some sparkly spandex and I've got two layers of the tulle on so far :)

Nice research jella. I'm going to add that link to the costume and craft thread.

Today I was all over town getting this and that for the Playa:

* Metal brackets, nuts and bolts to secure the metal baskets I am sticking on the back of our bikes (they're not bike baskets so no hardware included.)

* Got some silicone electrical spray to protect the trailer's wiring from dust sticking too deeply to it.

* The shadecloth I ordered a day ago arrived today!?! Wow! Now I have to sew all the edges so it's not moopy. That'll be 80' of edge!!!holycrap.

* I got us each a self-retracting key chain so we don't loose our keys. Mine's on a caribeener and the Mr.'s goes on his belt.

* Got 2 more BPA-free 7-gal water jugs. We're almost at 40 gal total, that should do us.

* Got Mr. a DryPak plastic shoot-through camera bag.

* Bought some Body Glide and some no-rinse shampoo and no-rinse body bath.

I'm pooped!

Whats wrong with your van? Anything I can do to help?

Today I got a big hippy-esque dress to wear at night (with thermals) for night wear and sunglasses!

Wow, EmilyD, you've been busy!

We stopped at Walmart #3, and finally found teeny 5-LED lanterns to hang from our wagon at night, and an extra solar shower bag. Also grabbed a couple more bins to store stuff in the closet.

Oh, wow, GORGEOUS!! And you'll be easy to spot. :D How long did that take you to do? What's the purple fabric?

My daughter & I went to the St. Vinnie's Dig & Save shop this afternoon and found all sorts of interesting bits of suede and lace and a few wearable as-is things--bags & bags for about $8.

Thanks Bling. It took longer than I thought it would (probably about 10 hours total) because of all the hand sewing involved. I used magenta lame' from JoAnne Fabrics. I had to double it so it would give enough shade under the umbrella. I figure the metallic will reflect the sun nicely. I added the tuft on the top, using some fake rose petals I had laying around. Because it's now thicker I had to make a new strap to close it. I used velcro instead of the snaps it came with.

I love lame'. It's Barbie fabric! IMHO, half the fun of this is getting to wear all the stuff we wish we'd had to play with as kids. 8)
