First Timer lookin forward to such an awesome experience. Im from Sacramento area and I only know one person that's going with me but Im sure Ill meet lots of cool people. I would really like to be able to help out setting up or whatever It takes to make this festival work.
If anyone knows how I can volunteer at a theme camp please let me know.

I'm up in the Great White north, but I know there are oodles of burners in your area. Here are some links to get ya goin:

It is always good to meet people from your area and get some ideas, support, etc.
I suggest you check out the survival guide http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... index.html! Read it till you can quote it (ok, it could save your life
Since this is your first burn, I would suggest that you go into it without committing yourself to anything till you get your feet. There always are ways of helping out (heck, even helping your neighbors set up is a cool way to make new friends). As long as you have food, water and shelter taken care of, everything else is just fun.
Once you have a burn under your belt, it will be easier to commit to a theme camp. I have never been in one but I know some of them have membership fees, and expectations of their peeps (will the heat knock you on your ass, can you live through a dust storm, etc???). Heck, I wont let people who I don't know camp with me and I'm a theme camp of 1 {grin}. I couldn't agree more with Rice- just go your first year and soak it in. Help your neighbors and you'll be contributing plenty.
