Side question. Does it seem like those burner friends of yours that aren't going have grown out of the event, or are hunkering down in the economic storm? Or another option that I haven't mentioned?

I don't know if this was addressed to me, but I'll answer: all of the above. Some are just done with the extreme effort/money, that could be used to see the world. Some, like me, don't have the money/freedom to go this year.theCryptofishist wrote:Side question. Damn! I just bought plane tickets/made car reservations for myself and my friend! Glad to know there's another SC first timer out there. Whenever I mention Burning Man around here people either look at me like I'm speaking a different language or wonder why the hell I'd want to go to something like that.
@CFM Yes I am driving a Tacoma and pulling a scamp trailer... I am going to load up dry food here and get all the fresh goods and water closer. I have my bike (and possibly my road mates-unless he bails) and stuff for a evap pond and possibly a shade structure and that is it. I should have some room. How much do you have?
mom, wife and photographer just tryin to get by.

Atlanta Bound Here...
I am headed out from the Atlanta area... I would love to hook up with the Alchemy caravan or just some regional burners. I haven't been active on this forum for the past two months as I have been backpacking out of the country. Just sort of playing catch up.

We're going to be doing a fair bit of both. I got us tix on Alaskan Airlines and they allow 3 bags, up to 50lbs each, for $20 apiece. That should get a fair share of our gear there. The rest I'll pick up in Reno.
Someday I'd love to do a road trip out there, but it just won't work with a full time job. Someday...

Flying out of Charleston. I found flights that have 2 stopovers for $450 total (I think). We're getting Southwest next year, so psyched about that.C.f.M. wrote:Where are you flying out of?
All I've found is American Airlines, out of Columbia, for $419.
Blah, I can't link directly to a flight, but if found it through kayak.com. Yeah, it's kind of pricy, but it's about par for flights out of CHS. If you're nearer Columbia it's probably better to just go that route.
I hate living in the black hole of travel down here.
