Seeking an Obstetrician who has been to the Playa!
Seeking an Obstetrician who has been to the Playa!
Well, just found out I'm gonna be a mom! My honey and I are ecstatic, but I'm over 35 and concerned about going out to the Playa...particularly because of the alkalinity and extreme temp. changes. My OB says not to worry...but he's not a Burner, so it's kind of hard for him to fathom the environment. Yes....I've read "pregnant on the Playa", but am looking for hard facts from a true MD who has been there, as opposed to solely well-meaning advice from my sisters. Anyone????

Mamacita,
You're going to be what, about 4 months along at the time of the event? I wouldn't worry too much about that... just be prepared to deal with nausea and possibly odd food cravings/aversions and of course make sure you stay hydrated (I like the watered-down Gatorade idea). The dust is not going to be a factor for the baby, s/he's suckin' amniotic fluid. You should protect your lungs the same as any other Burner would but I wouldn't expect your body to be so taxed at 4 months that it would make any difference in your breathing.
Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor but I've been to BM with my wife who was 7 months pregnant (and 32 years old) at the time. If you want to discuss more feel free to PM me. I'll try to keep an eye on this thread too.

Hmmm....
Just a thought.... Have you tried going to a Medical chatroom and asked for a Burner?
