For years I've wanted to invent and produce a mister with a timer.
I would program it to go off every 3 to 5 minutes, for about 30 seconds, and would mist my naked body in the tent trying to sleep at 10am which, no matter what shade one has, can be a challenging experience.
Just a small enough amount of mist to not make you wet,,, just a coating, which would evaporate, cooling down the body temp., and then, a minute after it evaporated, another short blast. One would sleep thru the process.
Battery powered.
Heaven....

You ROCK! Thanks!! I'm not seeing that particular item in the link in your next message, but now that I have the idea--and a handy Home Depot--we may be able to pull this off.FIGJAM wrote:Just called my home depot and its the 10ft extention kit for $9.98 in stock. It has 5 emiters and looks like the line would be small enough to slide over the wand on a garden sprayer once you remove the tip from the sprayer. If its not big enough, auto vacume line would sleeve over each end then add a couple of hose clamps,:D

I got one of these at OSH last summer on clearance for around 5 dollars. It's a kit for putting on a fan. I'd like to try the garden sprayer route with a tire valve and bike pump for pressurizing. ... I am happy with just using the garden sprayer I use for dishes as it is to be honest. I think I have at least two versions of the misty mate, and I found I used them just a bit, more for a conversation starter than actual heat relief. more stuff to think of making, packing and cleaning off.
UPDATE: We went to Home Depot, took a hand-pump 2 gallon garden mister out of the box, grabbed a 6-foot length of garden hose, and walked the whole works down to the plumbing dept. A very nice guy figured out what size screw threads were on the garden sprayer (1/2") and the hose (5/8") and found us a female-to-male adapter that works like a charm, for $6. So, now all we need is the Orbit mister (already purchased online but it was back ordered--they don't sell them in Home Depot stores in the Midwest) to see if we need a second adapter or if it connects to the other end of the hose on its own.
So--we'll have a whole portable, manual 20' long misting system for a total of about $50.
I built an upgraded version of the misting system in 2002. It worked well enough that it got taken to the med tent. It was a very hot year.
The upgrade was to drill a hole in the garden sprayer and install a valve from a tubless tire. Connect a portable tire pump and use that to pressurize instead of pumping. I also used a 5 gallon sprayer.
I also used it on my truck for summer 4wheeling in Death Valley. Put the misters in front of the radiator, run a tube through the firewall and spritz whenever the engine would try to overheat on me. Works very well.

Hey Token......That was a great idea for keeping the jeep cool. What about hooking up a line from the washer pump to some emitters in front of the rad with a valve to switch between windshield and rad?
