Are there pictures or a website somewhere?

Is it free or ticketed?

Just curious.....

Not burning man. Just a camping trip. It sucks. Don't go. Playa is still wet and people get stuck.

It is on the BLM's radar. I knew I should have kept the windblown MOOP message from the head office which I found a couple years back on the playa during ROM. They're musing about making BMORG take responsibility.

It sucks, don't go, and don't talk about it on the official Burning Man message board.

Seriously, it's not a Burning Man event at all. Some people go out there to screw around 4th of July weekend. Some of them also do burning man later in the year. A lot of them don't. Some of us are out in the area working at the ranch.

No cafe. No portapotties. No water. No ice. No Man.

Stay at home and support your local fireworks displays while we work our ass off so you have something to see come Aug.

@ AntiM: I'd say we torch this thread since it really has NOTHING to do with BM, and quite frankly could cause harm.

Ah, no. I may agree, but deleting an active thread which has done no harm isn't cool.

We could just shut the fuck up and let it sink.

While at the same time all the other forums also ocassionally talk about it, or even have pages devoted to it without discourse.

I get it, Dr.Frankenstein doesn't want to be responsible for his monster, but who else are the villagers gonna blame when the sheep have been slaughtered ?

But yeah it kinda sucks, just like camping in the desert sucks, because thats all it is, until someone buys a permit and makes it official.

The good thing about it is that it is the safest place to let off fireworks for the Fourth of July because it is legal to do so in Pershing county.

that and there's naked people

Fair enough. I would then suggest the thread be move to a proper area of the board since this is not a BM related Event or Regional. :)

Each year several threads are started about Juplaya.
A search will bring up about a dozen threads.
It would seem no different this time around.

Many camps use it as a dress rehearsal.
I know the Ein Hammer project will be there.
Flaming Lotus Girls are usually there.
I think it qualifies as an Event.

The minute it becomes a BM "event", BLM will demand a cut the same as they charge for burningman itself.

Fuck that.

This forum isn't exclusively for BM events and BM approved regionals. Almost any event remotely burnery flies here. Fundraisers too, but that's an entirely different piss and moan thread. I do prefer no paid party and/or commercial events, but since so many are by burners and incidentally provide funds for art and theme camps, I'm pretty lax in here.

I don't exactly get it. You don't want us to talk about going, or are you saying don't go?

I go to the Black Rock because I like the desert. BM helped spur that, but I had been on the playa before BM. Sometimes I do a work project to help give something back.

We're going to the desert, the question is, why don't you want us to talk about it?

I'm just saying the weekend is definitely on the BLM's radar. Don't be surprised if they decide to go too.

I see BLM out there now. We're not going to a BMorg event. There's all kinds of folks out there. Rendezvous was full of Burners, but was a different event. Lots of BLM to help. Are you saying I shouldn't go, to protect BM, or that I just shouldn't talk about it. On here. Jeez, what do we care if BLM is there? It's theirs.

The BLM is supposedly underway with building an Office in Gerlach, it's supposed to have 3 fulltime Rangers in it.

not that we created the need for it, but BM def/prolly helped fund it.

they also have other things to do, other than harass Hippies and poachers.

I wonder if any of those fortunate enough to make it out to the playa last weekend would be kind enough to give a status report on the condition of the playa surface.

oh come on. All I got for my birthday this year was a cup of coffee. I don't see the need to try to use that as a bartering tool.

Image

This is taken from around the protected dunes at sunset south and east of BRC. Most of the playa looked like this. Pretty good. Good biking where I was. I wasn't on the precise spot of Black Rock City, so, of course it could be different there. Is there a pool for this? Wish I was in it.

I don't know where the drive by range was. And I only went up to Double Hot and someone left the valve on, so it was double hot.

2nd amendment alive and well. If I dumped the threads I found frivolous there would certainly be a lot less threads. Of course, the easiest way to avoid a dumb thread - is to stop reading.

BLM has always had an off and on presence in Gerlach. I have spent many summers in he area staffing an engine with an BLM LE officer bopping around.

Also -

The BLM knows all about Juplaya - they can read the eplaya like anyone else online. They have a responsibility to protect resources, uphold laws, and be available if someone rolls a car, gets shot on accident, or blows a hand off with clandestine fire works. BLM isnt always there to screw you, lots of rescues performed every year on the BlackRock and northern nevada. and Nevada is 85% federal land.

The playa was dry without many dunes.

Frogbat is already up on youtube.

The frog pond was indeed locked, so everyone parked on the street and walked in. It was hippie stew by Sat am.

Gorgeous sunsets. Lots of fireworks.

Ein Hammer flame effects successful.

I am always surprised by how many there do not go to BM.
This is their BM.
