Costuming the Bike
I added dark green faux fur handlebar holders, and a seat cover to the Mr.'s folding bike as well as some silver lame' fabric to the frame. He also wanted a tail made out of it (hanging off the rear basket):

He put all the reflective stickers on it...I'm pretty sure they're going to fall off. Of course there will be Xmas lights wrapped around the entire bike and we each have blinky spoke lights (thanks to a tip from this, my favorite thread). Now it's on to my bike...pink faux fur EVERYWHERE!!!

bought a carport for the camp. now to read over eplaya on the best way to guy it down. was thinking of 'reverse guying' (lines here people -guy lines-) so i could get a nice amount of stability without the spider rope shade structure.
if anyone has advice i'd be happy to receive it.
the reverse guying would entail having the guy lines come back towards the far side of the shade structure as opposed to out and away from the structure.

New radiator? Check.
New tranny cooler? Check.
New fan? To be installed later this week once it arrives.
New brakes? Check (including rotors)
New tranny filer? Check
Oil Change? Check
Engine degreased? Check
Having radiator blow up on Friday before the holiday weekend but having a friend who can fix it all up by Tuesday (and more to get ready for Burning Man trip from Seattle to BRC): PRICELESS!

We use rebar, bent into an L shape, and 1"-1.5" ratchet straps. The yellow/orange straps with the two reflective strings at each edge are good because it makes the straps a bit reflective, and day glow yellow/orange.wwonka wrote:bought a carport for the camp. now to read over eplaya on the best way to guy it down. was thinking of 'reverse guying' (lines here people -guy lines-) so i could get a nice amount of stability without the spider rope shade structure.

Wrap one end of the strap around all four poles that come together, at each corner, put the other end around the rebar. Drive the rebar into the ground then tighten the straps, with the ratchet open. (like you would any other time with ratchet straps) Then close the ratchet and ratchet away tell the straps are really tight.
The day glo yellow or orange strap with the little reflectors built in should be bright enough that you wont need to light them.
I hate to promot anything but, Harbor Freight has 4 packs of rachet straps for 12.99, all month of july. I'm not sure if the Harbor Freight 4 pack has metal or plastic ratchets, avoid the plastic ones like the plague.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Just got one of those little one burner deals that go on top of a propane can for quick water boiling. Got the generic one like this, for only $15.

Do you think this strategy could use the reverse guy'ing like I was mentioning?illy dilly wrote: We use rebar, bent into an L shape, and 1"-1.5" ratchet straps. So keeping the guy lines flush with the structure as opposed to flaring out from it?

The lines would guy from one corner to the opposing base (something I am not able to show with my hi-tech grafix here). So the guy'ing would pull inward into a cube instead of outwards
as opposed too:

Does this idea make sense? Am I crazy?[/img]
EDIT: close enough to get the idea
