hubby and I are first timers this year. We've talked about it for ages, but finally made the commitment to figure it all out and GO!

Welcome m506460 (if infact that is your real name). Glad you decided to join us in the desert. As far as looking like morons; you are heading out to the most rugged, dry area of the world to spend a week in the dust. If you look like morons, you will be in the company of 50,000 other morons.

Do not worry about being a Moron... This will be my 4th year as a Burner (also spelt MORON)

for my first burn I found it extremely helpful to meet some local burners... I see you are from somewhere in California (maybe??), anyhow, here is a link to the CA regional reps: http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ca.html It is comforting to actually know someone who has experience (the tips were amazing).

The eplaya is a good spot to get some advice or have questions answered. Try some searches and go from there.

hahaha, I thought you said Mormons! Does that make you feel a little better at the prospect of looking like a moron?

I can't count the stupid, moronic things I have done on the playa over the years...but it never comes with that scorching, shameful feeling.

People have laughed and pointed at me plenty. A couple years ago while making camp (that we've had for over a decade, mind you) our neighbors across the street watched. After awhile, one got up and came over to me and handed me a card and walked away. The card had a severe looking Uncle Sam on it, pointing accusingly at me, and it said, "Yer doin it wrong!" I about pissed my pants I was laughing so hard. Its true! We were doing it wrong, and we were full on morons in that moment. I have such fond memories of it, and the card is proudly displayed in the bar.
