Last night my room was so warm that I couldn't sleep well. I went down into the basement to sleep on the couch. I should tidy up the guestroom down there and use the bed. Much cooler underground. I should tidy up anyway, I have a couchsurfer soon.

I don't care for beer and I truly hate gin. Being an old sailor, I drink rum. Rum-de-dum-dum!
careful AntiM.......seems I remember a story about some house guests you had...........
That was house sitters, not house guests. So far batting 100% on the couchsurfers.

I was on Celebrex for years for arthritis pain. It was pushing my blood pressure up so I let it go. I switched to ginger, garlic and cumin. I'm a skeptic, I was sure it wouldn't work but I knew it couldn't hurt. Wow, I was wrong. Works like a charm.

Funny, the Celebrex was cheaper because it was free.

I agree 100% FT.

But when I hurt my back they had me on all the high octane shit and all it did was make me loopy. Didnt do anything for the pain.

Got a tramadol from a friend and was pain free (although it did feel like I had drank a couple of beers).

I'm taking less than is recommended on the bottles... but it works for me.

Garlic: 75 mg (should be 150 mg)
Tumeric ( curcumoid) 300 mg
Gingerroot 550 mg (should be 1100 mg)

The garlic and ginger guidelines say take twice as much. I don't and it still is working. I can tell when I forget a few days in a row, but once it builds up in my system, I'm good to go for several days if I get forgetful.

I also take low dose aspirin (81 mg), multivitamin, glucosamine (less than I should), calcium+D, MSM, Omega-3 flaxseed/fish/borage oil blend, and milk thistle (for liver, amazing stuff). And Zyrtec.

I avoid nightshades and milk proteins as they increase inflammation in my joints. Tomatoes in sauce form are the worst offenders.

Morning fine folks.

I want to take a second whilst I head to work to say a hearty thank you to everyone here on the board and in the bar. I'm making my list, checking it twice and this place has been an encyclopedia.

It's the Burn - isn't everyone naughty? I sure as shit am.

And I'd venture a guess that if you've been to the Burn before and posted a tip or two, you've helped.

That still doesn't answer my question.

What is it? Gluten is a protein found in many grains. What is nightshade? Is it the alkoids? I'm trying to figure out the connection between things like potatoes and deathly nightshade.

I linked to an article about it. Here's two more, from googling "nightshade:"

You are a good person on the inside. When you stand inside yourself you see all the nastiness you are ashamed of commiting, all the failures, all the dumb mistakes, but that's not all or even most of what you are.
As for the outside, there are a lot of pretty dreary rules and expectations and idiots like Casanova, but yes, attractiveness is based on self-acceptance, and comfort in your own skin, and warm smiles as much as measures of the bust, waist and hips.

Potatoes and deadly nightshade are in the same family (?whoops, better run to wikipedia.)
Yes, family: Solanaceae.
Although potatoes and tomatoes are edible, some people are sensitive to some of the chemistry. I assume, although I do not know that these compounds are also in nightshade and other poisonous members of the family, but at much greater concentrations.

And you might be able to eat one (potatos) but not the other (tomatos).

(CLARK puts down the Bar Thread Review (had to read the last 6 pages, ha) and sips coffee...) What a beautiful day today (not too hot...yet :) ) I feel great/drunk with possibility for my day off. Gonna clean up house & host a COFFEE CAMP meeting tonight (and every Tuesday night until we hit the dust---coffee, Monster energy drink, beer & other snack foods, tunes, shannanigans!!) Gonna go over some ideas/thoughts/ actual plans. Things are panning out well, piece'ing out good. Here in the next couple weeks will go deeper into aqquireing gear, pre-acclimation & trust training. B i s q u i t s---When I look at the pavement here in town, I am starting to see flashes of cracked, dry-dusty earth bed...I blink again, pavement...s t r a n g e  8) Will have the Forum open tonight in case need to pop some general questions or for giggles
Today is not another insignificant, mundane day...it is & will be the only day like it --- never to happen again or be chronologically repeated. Like a snowflake (unique like a fingerprint) it will drift down and slowly fade with the sunset... ...today is n o w

edited because my grammar was like a 4th-grader

Sorry, I was away... yes, it is the alkaloids which cause the joint inflammation. Bell peppers, some other peppers, tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes are the main veggies. I can have tomatillos and cayenne, peppers, and small amounts of potatoes. For me, tomatoes are the worst.

This affects about ten percent of people with arthritis. I think it may be more, but there's plenty of people who will not even try an elimination diet for two weeks. Just two weeks doing without, then a huge eggplant Parmesan meal with a side of potatoes and peppers. You will be able to tell within a few hours if you are sensitive.

BTW Misa, a friend has invited us to be his guest at lunch on the 26th before I take you to the train. He is a very dear tennis buddy of mine with Czech roots.

Weather here will be heating up a bit, but Sausalito is always about 10 - 15 degrees cooler than most of the rest of the Bay Area. Lucky us!

Hey, YG, let's make a Misa sandwich in the NEB! Good way for us all to start the day!

Cheers
Cool Marty, both the airconditioned NEB and the lunch invitation........ha ha ha sandwich, I go for that ;)

Thats how I am with gluten. I am very very sensitive to any gluten (and it varies from one person to another how much or little will cause a reaction). Even cutting regular bread then my gluten free stuff with the same knife and I eat it has caused a reaction. Nothing horrible but enough for me to know that something is wrong. What "should" normally be okay for one is not always the case for another.

My "college try" - two weeks - was the best thing that ever happened to me. Before it, I was dependant on pain killers to be able to walk to the bathroom ten feet away and was still not able to function enough to work. Then after two weeks, almost all the pain was gone and I was able to walk, run, jog, cook, clean my house, dance with my wife, play with my cats, and even work. It is SO worth the pain in the ass diet.

My family is lucky though as I am the only one with active celiacs so far. Gluten intolerance happens here and there but so far no other active cases that we know of. ::cross fingers::

I hadn't heard of the arthritis issue with alkaloids though. I will store that away just in case. You never know what the future will bring.
