Irish burning man virgins looking for somewhere to camp!

Post by faugho » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:49 pm

Hi all,

My name is Ronan. Myself and my girlfriend Eimear will be driving down from Vancouver to the Burning Man, can't wait to get there. We're trying to get ourselves organised with a camper at the moment, otherwise we'll be tenting.

Just wondering, how do we know where to camp? We'll just have a ticket and a tent(and food, water and beer for the week) and no idea where to go once we get to the gates to the eplaya!

So any advice on where to go would be much appreciated... lookin forward to seeing ye all.... go raibh maith agaibh!!!

Welcome, guys!

You can camp anywhere within the encampment area, except in an area that's been reserved for registered theme camps. Theme camp spaces are designated on the map:

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/m ... index.html

When you pull in, before you start setting up, go around to your neighbors and introduce yourself, share some cookies, and get a sense of who you're near. Most everyone is glad to see you, but it can;t hurt to recon the place you'll be living for the next week.

Don't camp too close to the porta potties. A two minute walk is just about right. Just the constant spring-loaded slamming of the doors all week is enough to drive you crazy!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

The portapotties are part of the urban rumble of BRC, like the lowing of the diesels in the distance.

As close as you can stand the noise, is very convenient.

YOu might want to visit your profile and click that box that says "Disable BBCode" so that it's off instead of on. then you'll get those nice nested quotes going.

btw, is faugho one of those inpronouncible (for me anyway) Irish names?

Céad Míle Fáilte Ronan! I think you will be surprised by the number of Irish folks at BM! If you can't get enough of your fellow countrymen, try the Paddy Mirage!

[url]http://www.burntheirishbar.com/[/url]

They just got placement around 2 and Athens.

An Irish pub in the middle of the desert, leave it to the Irish to do something so crazy! LOL I'm looking forward to hanging at the Paddy Mirage, I'm an Irish musician (Uilleann pipes) so I'm hoping some other musicians show up so we can get a good session going! Hope to see you there! Less than 50 days for me to get the damn reeds in the pipes working for the desert, not an easy task

Sláinte mhaith!

I dunno. Pound for pound, crazy for crazy, the slavs may have the celts beat. Although, I admit it's a different kind of crazy.

gettin through some more reading and preparing for this thing!

defo meet ya on the playa... make sure to remember to come to the minitropolis camp and look for us (will try and get a tri colour hanging above an RV if my scottish mates let me ha ha) - we are camping at 8.30 and G (mobile phones wont work out there so need to plan before as the place is huggge)

yeh its a small world.. ive not seen faugho in years since we used to hang round together as teenagers, causing trouble on the mean streets of leixlip ha ha... seen him on facebook then seen reference to the burning man too...

gona be the best week ever! hope it lives up to my expectations (was there in 2008 but i can feel that this trip is gona be way different) ~ four of us driving up from vegas karen, got RV in el monte and returning it to san fran after... how long are yous in vegas for? we are stayin in the MGM for a few days to get used to the climate and all that jazz...

RVs will be hard to come by now so you really need to put in the work (and try not to mention burning man to them) we booked on the UK site for el monte and it was half the price as the american site - www.elmonte.co.uk

let us kno whow u get on

we did the vancouver to burning man trip in '07 ( via san fran and tahoe) best holiday ever.

Joe Buck, it looks like me and a few of the lads are gonna be camping in the paddy mirage as well, I'll have the travel guitar with me but the mandolin cant make it this year...i only have so many hands for carrying, probably better off, i'd only make a show of myself on it :-p

Yo Velocirafter, guitar would be great. Heard from a flute player a few days ago so that's a start to a session! I'll look for you at the Paddy Mirage. I will be on the playa next week to set up our camp, hope I have some extra time to help the Paddy crew set up!

Cheers, and a safe trip from Limerick!
