This is New Reno. The camp that crime built.

Hello guys and dolls,

I am one of two people heading up a camp called New Reno. It's a highly ambitious project, aiming to engage the entire playa in a massive performance art piece that spreads across every camp.

It's gonna be tough, and we got a late start because large portions of our crew aren't returning this year, but in the fuck it, safety third attitude we all love and swear by, we're going for it.

Oh yeah and BRC went wild for it so we got a 200x150 plot in the middle of center camp. That too.

So we're looking for accomplices, in every respect, to help us pull off what could be one of the coolest interactive elements in burning man's history.

Without further ado, here it is. Our concept, New Reno::

What is New Reno?

Guys and dolls, let me tell you.

New Reno is the 1920's. Mobsters, crooked politicians and flapper girls. Speakeasy's, gambling dens and swing music. New Reno is a full on city in unto itself with the all the intrigue of 1920's prohibition era gangster movies. The camp will play host to a private war taking place between two rival crime syndicates, the Mordinos and the Bishops. Every member of New Reno will play a roll in the enfolding battle that takes place over the seven days of the burn.

While the drink's flow and the roulette wheels spin in New Reno's speakeasy, the rival families will do their best to wrest control of New Reno, and Black Rock City Itself, for themselves. As the parties rage and flapper girls swing their stuff, the families will be swelling their ranks. Pulling bright eyed recruits from the playa to pull jobs, gain territory and make a name for themselves in a dog eat dog battle for control of BRC's criminal underworld.

Against the back drop of liquor, dazzling lights, and personalities of New Reno, a war will rage. Fought by every burner who has what it takes to be a made man, till one family reigns supreme over New Reno, and all of Burning man.

Camp Size & Location::
150x200 at 7:00 and Ring Road

Visual Style & Camp Theme::
1920's Metropolis.

Camp Elements::
Speakeasy (Large Dome, Camp Center)::
An illegal drinking establishment that also doubles as a gambling den. To play games a burner must barter with our pit boss and make a trade of reasonable goods for caps, New Reno's currency. Whatever traded to the pit boss will be recirculated into the barter system as prizes, bribes and job elements (see below). Caps can be used to play games, purchase drinks, bribe family members, make tribute to the bosses, and broker whatever deals the burners so choose to make on their own. The speakeasy will serve as the central interaction zone for most of New Reno.

Stage (Wooden Platform)::
Performance space for various visual and audio elements of New Reno. VJ's, DJ's, dancers, and live musical performances by various artists. Will act as a stage for central plot points as the New Reno story unfolds over the week.

The Den (Small Dome)::
A relaxation area devoted to some of New Reno's quieter events and an area for guests and members of New Reno to unwind to some old time radio broadcasts (modified This American Life podcasts with a few retro twists). May be incorporated into speakeasy elements depending on final camp plans.

Family Breakdowns::
The Bishops:: Prominent business family of New Reno, with strong connections to New Reno's mayor and police chief. Run by Don Helix, a level headed financier with good public sensibilities but unscrupulous business ethics and a cutthroat attitude. COLORS:: Purple & White

The Mordinos:: Headed by Don Nova, the Mordinos are a ruthless crime syndicate gaining sway in New Reno's prominent underground economy. More violent and brutal than the Bishops, the Mordinos lean more on their notoriety than their public image. COLORS:: Yellow & Black

Characters Thus Far (subject to change)::

Don Helix Bishop – Alexander Wolf

Don Nova Mordino – Max Nova

Pit Boss – Neil Wright

Band Master – Jordan Overly

Police Chief – Carlin Gettliffe
