Undecided Burgin
I'm thinking about going to burning man for the first time this year in the hopes of experiencing something spiritually authentic and achieving personal growth in the process. Unfortunately someone who is not only illegitimate but has been able to easily use the 'social capital' and credibility that burning man has developed over the years to gain patronage for himself and his pseudo-spiritualist organization wants nothing more than to put out my flame. I really admired him until I found out the truth for myself. What makes him truly dangerous though is that he will readily give spiritual advise to the naive without knowing how that will effect them and I've witnessed the devastating effects that sort of recklessness can have on people's lives. To be able to get a clearer picture of who he is; imagine a really minuscule or small time James Arthur Ray. I myself was fooled by him because he seemed 'brilliant' and he's actually been to burning man so I thought that automatically gave him credibility through experience. Then I started meeting other burners and I realized that wasn't the case. So here I am wondering if burners are any different or are they really just a large group of saps with a few hiding in the midst who are just like him. If so I would be wise to steer clear of the burn because my very soul would be at risk... I would like to think I'm wrong though and that there's actually a significant difference between most burners and a power seeking scumbag who has got a sick fascination with destroying other peoples relationships. At any rate being exposed to him has made me really skeptical and cautious to trust others just because they've been to burning man before, and as a result I can't be as open as I would like to be which makes enjoying my experience difficult at best.

Welcome. You have plenty of time to start your preparation for a week in the desert. There is another poster here, "This Woman" who is looking for someone to share a small tent with. You should PM her and see about traveling and camping with her. It sounds like you could make a lifelong friend/soulmate here.
There are no pharmacies nearby, so be sure to pack all your medications and be sure to bring extra, should you get stranded for several days in the Black Rock Desert. (radical self reliance)
I'll look for you there. I'm sure you'll be easy to spot.
Again, WELCOME!

Please try to use paragraphs. A string of long drawn out run on sentences makes for a hard read. Not sure I follow you.
So, looks like some manipulative, abusive cult like fuckhead has emotionally confused you.
Let me assure you, our cult has very clearly published rules and there are no surprises.
The Ten Principles:

The Mission:

The First Timers Guide:

And the Bible:

When you read all that and follow all the links in each section located on the right margin of the page, go look up this camp and see if they might be your spiritual cup of tea.

Yes, please excuse my lack of paragraph structure in my post as well as any mispellings. Thank you, Token, you solved the 'what's eating this bitch' conundrum. I appreciate the informative links. Thank you also for clarifying and differentiating. I would also like to add it's imperative to appreciate the momentousness and influence the burning man
has before it becomes pilfered, diluted, and debased by those with underhanded and utterly nepharious motivations. And still looking forward to meeting you out on the playa Shambala

Burningman is just a big camping trip in the desert. You're just as likely to have a spiritual epiphany there as you are in a three-d movie theatre, picking up garbage on the side of the road as community service, on a barrier island off the Carolinas, or throwing bean bags at a carnival booth.
If you go to the event with spiritual expectations, you are likely to be dissapointed. As you noticed, you don't even have to go there to get that experience.
the best thing about our cult is that if you aren't getting enough protein, getting enough sleep or eating too much starch, it's your fault, not an attempt at programming.

You're never, ever supposed to admit that. Some day you'll be standing in a courtroom with that blank look on your face telling the judge, "I'm a victim, he just hit me for no reason". Now the secret is out and we will know that you antagonized this poor guy to beat the snot out of you.spiritualy_debased wrote:Its what we women have termed the weaponization of learned helplessness or emotional bait and switch

Been there done that with my first marriage. Only the honerable judge sided with me. Have my double d's and an incredible plastic surgeon to thank for that. Anyway I'm impaired not hideous. And when the divorce was finalized the icing on the cake was what I did with his speedboat. Gave it to my Zumba instructor that I never admitted I was fucking the entire time we were married. He knew though..and it destroyed him. It's that intensity that made it more pleasurable for me I think. It was my first marriage though, you live and learn. I certainly wouldn't do it the same way next time
