This is going to be my first time going! and I've had BM on the brain since around April. It's getting worse as I keep seeing shit, thinking.. OOooh hey, I can use that for something.. yeah, it's on my mind at least 12 times or more a day.

oddly lit dusty streets, weird people with expectations, too many places to go, strange relationships, and lots of fire! i dream bman once or twice a week!
Wow, I dream about being at Burning Man about twice a week too. Thought I was the only one! A repeating theme in that dream is: "Wow, it's fucking Saturday already and I've been just laying around all week missing everything. Dang!"

What's up with that?

But seriously, I've been wondering whether or not my thinking about Burning Man several times a day is about to become some sort of malady. Guess it's time I started a BMA group, (Burning Man Anonymous.)

I've become a hard core addict. A playa junkie. A schwag fiend. A self reliance hound. A gifting nut. A fire art fanatic. I'm jonesing man! Jonesin' bad. Sweatin' all over. Got get my Burning Man fix quick!!! Gettin' the shakes now. Delerious Tremors startin' in. It's gettin' bad. Pant. Pant. Pant. I'm startin' to hallucinate. I'm seeing visions of a bunch of topless chicks on bicycles, cars with faces drivin' around, fire belching out the mouth of metal dragons, weird giant sculptures of American Indians worshiping an oil derek, a theatre that shows only crappy films, thousands of giant bunnies marching across the desert. Oh. Oh my God, I'm loosin' it. I'm loosin' it man! I'm losin' it!!! Yeeeaaaahhhh!

Hey wait a minute! I'm just looking at my Burning Man photos on Flickr.

Whew! All better now.

Burning Man Anonymous? Fuck, not ANOTHER 12 step program I need to join!

Actually, the thinking all year about Burning Man even though the event itself lasts only a week is a dynamic more akin to thinking about sex. The actual duration of most sex acts is relatively brief. And yet we think about sex all the time. Most of us spend far more time thinking about it than doing it.

Carl Jung points out that human psychology needs a certain amount of ecstasy to function normally. Sex can provide a lot of that ecstasy, so can artwork, so can beautiful, intriguing displays of light and fire, so can gorgeous landscapes, so can a lot of sunshine and fresh air.

So, you might say, NOT thinking about Burning Man all the time is what's abnormal! :)

Carl Jung would have a field day with the Man. Freud would just run in circles.

Oh I think it would be interesting to any psychologist (psychoanalysis, personality, social, etc.). Though, I'm not sure cognitives would be interested in it. I personally have never been interested in cognitive psych. Oh that was the most boring class I ever had to take (and my poor grad student who taught it hated it too). Psychology and the arts, fastinating to break down Grimm fairy tales into their psychological meanings and lessons.

Kinsey would have loved BM too.

I can't stop thinking about it. Probably once an hour. If I'm real busy I can go maybe four hours. Every time I smoke a cigarette I think, it would be better on the playa.

I wake up with nightmares about "i forgot all my underwear" or "we brought the polls but not the tarps for the shade structure" or "what do you mean the water is sitting in your driveway?"

It was bad leaving the playa last year, then it started to faid in December. Then February rolls around and Ticket sales are back up as a topic. After I waited 'in line' on line for my tickets it was all over. I probably spend at min. 2 hours a work day slacking off on eplaya, flickr looking at photos, burningman.com, or craig's list.

I'm really hoping that after this year (my second year) I'll have experienced enough that I don't have to constantly think about it.

I had a dream we opened the bins to fill the Home for Wayward Art. I'd only brought blank canvases.

i'm a newb, but the dust is calling, i tell ya what...

I had a dream not too long ago that i was running as fast as i could, seemed to be at dusk, from way deep playa towards center camp and i could see all the lights and people and i couldn't then, nor could i now, explain the feeling of jubilation i was feeling. there was someone running with me, i didn't know who as i never dared take my eyes off the city.
i woke up smiling like a damn kid at xmas.
Haphazardly I told this to the mayor of Eden, the theme camp ill be in, CJ, and she said quote "youre freaking me the hell out. I had the EXACT same dream. verbatim" i've never met CJ, and i've never been to the Playa.

I wanna float away with the wind..

I probably spend about 70% of my waking life thinking about burning man 5% preparing for burning man, and 25% misc.

I am a soon to be deflowered playa virgin, will BM cure my insanity or fuel it further :?:

For me it fueled it!! I think about it constantly! I guess there are instances where people get out there and just hate it. Of the very few that I've met that hated it, it was because of the conditions. Make it as comfortable as you can for yourself. READ, READ, READ the survival guide and you'll be fine!
It took me 17+ years to finally make it out there and honestly the main reason it took that long is that I didn't want to camp in a tent for a week (I grew up desert camping in tents and well...been there, done that, it's not my thing LOL!). I'll admit that I love my trailer and genny!
 Uhoh, I think I'm starting to sparkle....just a little

It'll only make it worse. I hoping the second year is the cure... or maybe the third...
I love thinking about it, but it gets in the way. Especially at work!!!

I've had dreams where I begin to think in the dream, "I should be dreaming about Burning Man about now". Lucid? You betcha.

I think about it all the time. It's quite...amazing really. My first experience made it worse...getting worse every second since then.
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!

Yes! I am constantly thinking about it and worry if I will have withdrawals afterwards. I mean, what will I do with my free time? I kind of don't want it to happen because then it will be over and I won't have anything to daydream about.
If you think you've overdone it, double it.

you know you're obsessed when you're watching a CNN segment on a tent city in Haiti a year after the quake and exclaim "That's a sweet shade shelter!".
