who needs what
seems, in these trying times, maybe folks who need stuff can post,
folks who have extra, can post
and, maybe, help each other out?
just a thought.
if the mods deem this not ok.......sorry..........
for instance:
I've made a bunch of concrete weights, for holding stuff down. They are antifreeze bottles.....so, have a concrete filled handle, to tie to........
probably weigh around 10 lbs.
if anyone needs, I can bring some.

I have lots of newspaper endrolls, that are good for covering you van or RV and letting people leave messages, or art, or w/e.
Plus lot's of black anti-skid mats from big rig trailers. These are good for putting under your evap pond or bucket..

I think those are the same things that employees stand on in cafes and supermarkets so that they don't slip in water and have a little give on the cement floor.Homiesinheaven wrote:what are black anti-skid mats?

Sorry about that...the mats are black thin rubbery sheets. I get them off of trucks that bring in rolls of newspaper. The paper mill puts these mats down under the flat edge of the roll so they don't slide around on the wooden truck floor.
I've used them to line my tool box with, covered a workbench with them, and used one at the burn for between the roof of my van and my evap tray...
I have a surplus of them and can offer them to somebody that might want them for free...

Sounds nifty, I could probably find a use for some of that, too. How thick are they?Bounce530 wrote:Sorry about that...the mats are black thin rubbery sheets. Looks like it would make an excellent flooring material for the floor of a yurt, to cut down on the tarp's crinkle factor when you walk on it.
Not essential, but if it's no bother to bring it out, I'd love to have some.
If someone else has an actual important use for it, however, by all means have at it.

My thought was to use it inside the yurt, just so people don't wake up the other sleepers when they move around inside at night, walking over crinkly-sounding tarp material.oneeyeddick wrote:that stuff is kinda like pondliner, but with a bunch of leaks everywhere.
it puts out a lot of heat also, not so good for a yurt entrance.
Sort of like an area rug, but less inclined to hold onto the playa dust.

nope, black rubber, just like pond liner, just like tires.
it doesn't float either, it will sink to the bottom of your pool and just sit there.
Spray painting the inside walls and bottom of the pool black works a little bit(in thoery), but prolly not that much of a difference.
(I did this once)
The key is exposure to air, as in set a couple of box fans up so that more air is moving over the surface, or make the surface of your water bigger through wicks, drip towels, swamp cooler filters, small sprinkling fountains, etc etc.

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
The top of our system is a round disc. The water pours off and around, down over wire mesh and into the pool. We have painted the disc black in the past to help with heat asborption, but those mats would work better and evenly distributing the water. I was planning to put black material on the disc this year, but I'm hoping these would work better because they are thicker.
