Paddy Mirage coming to Burning Man Metropolis 2010

Post by Paddy Mirage » Sat Jul 17, 2010 3:15 pm

Paddy Mirage is a glowing place of creativity and socializing in the setting of an Irish Bar, a place of laughter, music and cheer; a community environment for the all social classes to share. No matter where you roam in the world there is an Irish bar to be found. It is a place of welcome for all nationalities and is heralded as a socially cohesive and musically inspiring place to be. We will construct a pub that will serve as civic center of sort during the event. We will offer shelter to the Metropolis during the many dust storms that attack our Oasis in the desert. You can huff and puff but you will never blow Paddy Mirage down. We will be a full bar that will serve the public until the well runs dry. The Paddy Mirage will also provide a canvas for the artistic community of Burning Man. A public gallery is what we have in mind. Bring it, hang it and enjoy it. You can’t have an Irish pub without live music. We will be featuring traditional Irish music that will create a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy a pint in one of the most uninhabitable places on earth: The Black Rock Desert. We hope to reward all the hard working participants of the worlds best gathering of art, music and creativity with our brand of Irish hospitality.

If you would like to help us raise funds for our project we have started a kick Starter project to help us make it to Burning Man.

We are going to be located at 2 o'clock and Athens. We are extremely excited to be back and can't wait to get out to the Playa and get back to serving the community that we love so much!!!

We welcome the spirit of this post and wish them well.My first reaction was why your post had no positive comments. Then I saw what has become an all too familiar link to Kickstarter. It only took a year but believe people are tired of this already. There just seems to be a bit of dissonance between the vision you(and others) describe for your camp/art project and this stark reminder on Kickstarter.

This project will only be funded if at least $3,000 is pledged by Wednesday Aug 18, 3:00pm EDT.

So if the goal is not reached will you still be at 2 and A ?

There are many other examples of "Kickstarter projects" this year and not singling you out.Just wondering what happens when invariably,in some cases, the funding is not reached.

In any case good luck and we hope you reach your goal.
Be careful. You can spend all your money in there..............................Oriental Visitor

i am so with you on this one Zorro. all this kickstarter bullshit is the antithesis of what i think camps should do. throw a fundraiser. then you are giving something to people who can then give something to you. asking for money before bm for your "service" while on playa is in my mind a bit icky. I just went to a pink mammoth fund raiser here in Denver and had the time of my life. it was more fun then i have had dancing since i was on the playa last year. the drinks were suggested donations, and i was more then happy to pay for them because i was having a blast. kickstarter is a lazy way of going about raising money!!!! plus its a little late to still need the cash flow. Just my thoughts.

Hoping to understand your negative comments better

First I want to acknowledge on a public forum you will experience feed back that does not line up with your intentions. We have been serving the masses at Burning Man since 2003. We are based out of Ireland and have members that are scattered all over the globe.
Our intention with Kickstarter is to raise funds to better serve the public not ourselves. We are using kickstarter to try and and raise funds from those that have participated with our project in the past or plan participating in the future. If you do not want to donate that is fine by us. The posting was intended to alert the friends of Paddy Mirage that I have no way of contacting directly.
I hope you will not hold it agianst us for trying to raise funds to better enhance your Paddy Mirage experince at this years Burning Man.
