Grocery Outlet for Playa Food

Post by Clar-i-ty » Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:20 pm

If you're in the Bay Area they currently have Powerade powder at Grocery Outlet for $1.99, Summer Sausage for 1.99, Some really great organic versions of Frosted Mini Wheats, Golden Grahams, Honey Nut Chereos, and Lucky Charms for .99 and...wait for it...Bacon Flavored Spam!

We just enjoyed a round of SLT's and boy were they tasty!

I keep a few cans of SPAM in the car in case I get stranded there will be something to eat. SPAM has plenty of calories to keep one alive and is so noxious that I will not be getting into my stash unless to prevent starvation.

I feel silly saying this but I just live on Trader Joes canned beans and/or chilli, and Trader Joe's Indian pouches. Neither of them need to be cooked. I just cook it if I feel like getting fancy. Oh, but last year I had 20 bins of Trader Joe's truffles on dry ice for the drive from Reno and then, once on playa, they went into one of the in-camp chest freezers. Walking up to a stranger with a bag of frozen truffles (the kind that melt at 75f) really shocks people. Worth it.
It was better next year. -Burners

Grocery Outlet also has strings of 50 solar lights for ten bucks. Unfortunately to my knowledge they are not bacon flavored.

I LOVE Grocery Outlet for playa food. I get a lot of delicious (often organic) stuff there that works really well on the playa.

They're such a great resource.

And they also carry Banana Boat sunblocks for $3 instead of the $9 that most retail places have them.

I only got 12 lights for ten bucks. The bulbs are encased in these big plastic butterflies, and they do not seem to come out of the butterflies without a fight. I cut the butterflies down to less cumbersome size.

I love (bacon ) spam

If your ever get questioned about spam, say it's a Hawaiian ethnic food. I love any spam sliced thin and fried. Turkey spam may be questionable as there are alternatives.

Note that there is a SaveMart going out 445 (Pyramid Way) toward Pyramid Lake. It's on the right past the Walmart/Home Depot.

I wouldn't take that route if you are hauling a heavy load as it is a lot of stop/go traffic lights and such in suburban sprawl but if you need to pick up stuff along the way, there are a lot of stores.
