BRC Gay Pride Parade 2010

If you want to be in a protest style parade at Burning Man, just come to the Critical Dicks March.
No body cares about gays being gay at BM, it's already accepted, and you won't find any other City in the world where it is accepted so openly.
At least(at Burning Man) the Critical Dicks March has something worthwhile to prove.
But go ahead an have the parade, play leapfrog while you are at it if you want to, you will get more people's attention if that is all you are looking for.

I hope the parade goes ahead, and you get lots of participation. Why? Because I expect it would be an entertaining parade and fun to watch. It doesn't have to be about proving anything to anyone, or protesting, -- it can just be a parade! Christmas parades celebrate Christmas. 4th of July parades celebrate the 4th of July. Most parades aren't about protest, they're about celebration. Of course there will be people at BRC who hate gays, because there are such people. Hopefully, those people will just go do something else. (I do think that a parade about protesting against the people who don't want there to be a gay parade would likely be a much less entertaining parade than I'm hoping for.)

i love the idea of a gay pride parade, cause i live in an area where if you try to have one you will be hurt... i havnt been to a pride parade since 85 or so. i've lived in area's where you cant have pride parades. in my area there is 1 (ONE) gay bar in a 100 mile radius. i am sure there are other gays like myself who would love to participate in something like this cause they dont have it at home.

Your profile says you're in Sacramento- there's a bunch of gay bars there & it's less than 100 miles to SF. Sac also has a Pride parade.

OK, let me post my $0.02 on the concept of a Gay Pride Parade at BM.

First, a little about me. I'm straight, but fully believe in equality and same-sex marriage rights. On the morning that Proposition 8 was being voted on, I stopped my car on the street to confront a pro Prop-8 protester and try to get him to see the error of his ways. (Needless to say, I failed at changing his mind.) No one could call me anti-gay.

I don't think a Gay Pride Parade is a good idea for a BM event. As has been stated many times on this thread, BM is already about the most accepting place on the planet.

BM attendees should be creating art, entertainment, and performance for other BM attendees. A Gay Pride Parade, a republican or democrat rally, a Chinese New Year parade all have their place, etc, etc all have their place, but I don't think that BM is it. BM is not about exclusion, but inclusion.

ON THE OTHER HAND, BM does provide the ability to do some things that can't be done in public, such as walking around naked. Critical T/D do things that can't be done elsewhere and so BM is appropriate because of the concept of radical self-expression. If you need to express yourself in those ways, BM may be appropriate. But a parade for the purpose of saying "we're proud of ourselves" does not GIVE to the BM community.

After the Burn, look for us at the LA Decom with our Pride flags and Lounge. And in 2011, we're welcoming all Gay Burners to Long Beach Pride to show what we can do without Commericialism and with Radical Self Expression, in other words, probably a Lounge to relax, shade, couches and meeting our brothers and sisiters without spending money! It's time that the Pride celebrations offer more for our community & expression, and we're going to lead the way!
