Hello there all you lovely ones!
It's finally happening. It almost doesn't seem real.
I learned about Burning Man in 2003 and instantly latched onto it. For a whole mess of reasons, I never managed to get myself there in the intervening years, despite some very lovely people in my life constantly commenting on my Burner spirit. I even had a ticket last year, but ultimately decided that the crew I was to go with.. just didn't feel right.
This year everything has come together almost too perfectly. I was on the fence, but something clicked about a month ago and I knew that this was my year to come home.
As the days go by I have to keep myself busy to keep myself sane. Packing lists, outfit preparation, equipment sharing, logistics, shade structure planning..
I realize that I'm nervous! I'm thrilled and ecstatic and excited and whatnot, but I'm also terrified. But I'm also going with someone I trust and a group of people who are excited to have a wide-eyed first-timer with them.
I'm P. I live in Portland, OR. 25 years old. Green-haired. Utterly stoked to be here.
Finally coming home.. for the first time!

All manner of pretty lights!
If you & your crew will make your final approach in the dark, have someone promise to wake you up the second the city lights come into view. It'll look like the largest, [primarily] one-story carnival you've ever seen, at a distance sufficient to be a mirage. It's nicely eerie.
(The line of cars is beautiful at night too, but if someone wakes you up that early it still might be an hour or two before you get in, so some would opt to sleep if they had the choice.)

What an awesome image, and what a nice tip to give a newbie. As a first-timer myself, I've read a lot of tips and suggestions on eplaya but that's the first time I've seen that suggestion. That adds a nice bonus to my potential after-dark arrival.Savannah wrote:All manner of pretty lights!![]()

I'm gonna ask that all lights be turned off after midnight on Tues. We need to conserve something for some reason.peacefulhuman wrote:What an awesome image, and what a nice tip to give a newbie. Oh yeah....spy satellites. They come over around midnight and stay for an indeterminate amount of time. We need a blackout.

Hey, I'm perfectly willing to find my way by groping in the dark. And I'm certainly no stranger to blackouts!bluesbob wrote:I'm gonna ask that all lights be turned off after midnight on Tues.
