Guns, Love Em or Leave Em
We got ready to work on the 17 round magazine and testing it, discovered it is too hard to reshape without annealing.
So basically, the Mecgar is too well made to modify.
We may try trimming the gun frame to accommodate it.
We modified a 15 round magazine instead to accept 16 rounds.
Any of the non-compact magazines can be modified in this way, including the california 10 round.
We trimmed and chamfered the follower to locate on the spring better and allow the extra space.
The Mecgar follower is sophisticated enough that this is not a casual job to do correctly, as on some followers.
The follower is made of graphite impregnated plastic and is extremely tough.
All legs are asymmetrical too.
It is very difficult to hang onto while you work on it.
Modifying it for spring location is separate from the other work, but done as part of clearing additional spring space from the bottom of the follower.
My friend thinks the location slots should be done on all of the standard magazines, even if leaving capacity standard.

In Defense of Others
or Why You Should Carry a Gun When Playing With Children
A friend of mine had to draw his weapon recently.
He had gone to the park to play catch with his three year old and two other children.
Even though it was in a high crime area, it was during the day and he wasn't too worried, so he was only carrying the small Keltec 380.
Heading home, he saw two dangerous pit bulls escape and head for his son, slightly ahead of the others.
He immediately started running, trying to head off the dogs.
This all happened very quickly.
One of the dogs was charging, going for the throat and face of his son.
He screamed at the dog and the dog, distracted, missed his throat and grabbed the child by the rear.
He hadn't had time to get the baseball mitt off his hand and couldn't draw with it on.
As he got there, he hit the dog so hard with the mitt, that the dog let go.
It was an incredible blow.
(He has a lot of experience with pit bulls having beaten one bloody and still failing to get it to let go of another dog.)
The dog began to attack again.
He drew his gun, and wanting to avoid hurting the dog, fired into the ground.
Both dogs backed off, regrouped and began another attack.
This time, at extreme range for this gun, aimed to kill, missing by inches.
Dogs are difficult targets.
This time they retreated.
As you might expect, there was one psychotic witness raving about how he was shooting up the neighborhood, insisting his permit be checked, he be arrested, etc.
He simply pulled out the magazine, showing it to the cop.
Two rounds gone.
The cop quit listening to the crazy woman.
He finally told her they already had his permit on file from two months ago, not saying anything more.
And he finally told her to shut up.
The dog owner insisted her dogs couldn't get out, after it was over.
One of the news stations ran a slanted story suggesting it was a crime to defend children in a residential area.
Not sure where they think crime occurs, considering they report on it all the time.
Without the gun, the defensive options were the mitt, or hands and feet.
Nothing else available.
No cover.
The last severe dog attack we had, two rescuers were severely injured by the dogs.
The first victim had his arms torn off, but lived, thanks to strangers.
I am convinced at least one person would have died without the gun being available, and it could have happened anyway, if things had gone slightly differently.
The boy had some extensive repair work in the hospital, but no permanent damage.
About as good as you can hope for, with a dog trying to kill you.
I am really astounded that he tried to save the dogs, knowing what he does about them.
But you don't really know how you will react until you are there.
More target practice and modified sights are planned.
The cop asked him what he was going to do next, meaning about the dogs and any possible legal action.
He said "I'm going to the range."
The cop just nodded.

that is a good example........a gun can save you from more that dirtbag criminals.........although, I also wonder why he didn't "tater" the dogs........
My child, same circumstance, I don't think I'da let the dogs get close enough, if I had a choice.
but, as you say, unless you're in that position, it's hard to judge.

All very fast.
He got there as quickly as he could.
I know I would have shot them.
But he was on the dog before he could draw.
My first shot would not have been a warning shot.
Dogs are difficult.
I would have held my ground and waited for a shot.
But he was also worried about how injured his son was and had to protect the other two children as well.
I first started carrying when walking because of dogs, not people.
After the attacks, the police were talking about how often they are attacked by dogs.
One described a recent attack by a very vicious dog, that they had to shoot while attacking, almost biting the shotgun.
If you've ever wondered how well a shotgun works on a dog, they said from close range it just hollowed the dog out, from front to rear.

The 50-pound female retriever mix darted inside a service entrance to the zoo on Tuesday and led workers on a brief chase before it bolted over a 4-foot-high visitors railing and a retaining wall at the tiger exhibit.
She swam across a 12-foot-wide moat to the interior of the exhibit and was quickly attacked by a 225-pound female Sumatran tiger. The open exhibit's main walls are 18 feet high.
This dog was later named "Tygre", which I think proves people may be stupider than that dog.

If a dog running at large causes serious bodily injury, as was the case Thursday in Cordova, the owner may be charged with a felony punishable by a prison sentence of one to six years and a $3,000 fine. If the dog causes a death, it could get the owner two to 12 years and a fine of up to $5,000.
57-year-old Betty Lou Stidham died in an attack by two pit bulls near her home in East Memphis. Convicted of criminally negligent homicide, owner Edwin G. I can't find a link for it, but a cautionary tale was the child's dog watching the child in a rural area here.
When an aggressive dog tried to attack, the child's dog attacked him as part of the pack.
Most people have no understanding of how dogs work.
A friend could never understand why her dogs obeyed me better than her, and never bit me.
They bit several other friends, costing her some healthy medical bills.

You may have an opinion to put in play in any business dealings with them.
Or just call them and let them know if you support their opposition to this country.
Why you shouldn't Do Business with Central Payment, Wells Fargo
Why you should consider NOT doing business with the following Companies if you value your 2nd Amendment Rights.
The following is my experience and my personal opinion. Every loan we don't make with Wells Fargo or Wachovia will cost them thousands of dollars. Let Wells Fargo and Wachovia know how you feel.

Kind of fits both, I guess.
What's the story with Savage?
I'm still happy with keltec, on the inside, where it counts.
Often better quality than some so-called name brands.
Fun watching them all trying to copy the 380, most successfully, all heavier, as keltec predicted.
They told me, add anything, change anything, add weight and cost.

Wells Fargo Bank
Re the post about Wells Fargo etc, Central Payment called me back and say that it is all a Wells Fargo issue.
They tried to resolve it and have had no issues with the business, and wanted to maintain the relationship.
And they have no idea why Wells Fargo rejected the business or locked down the cash.
They said it was finally returned to the owner.

We had another dog death here.
One of the people trying to assist has over a hundred bites and a finger bitten off.
And no one seemed to have a gun.
The dogs had been reported to the police many times before this happened.
The owner's girlfriend was in charge of the dogs, and has been taken into custody.
No word yet on that.
I asked my friend that had the incident recently, ie near death of his son, about using tear gas.
With his previous experience with pit bulls, he doesn't think tear gas would stop them.
It is worth noting that dogs can be trained to ignore gunshots and such dogs will not retreat from a shot that misses.

"See the man with a red shirt." I saw the man with the red shirt at the end of the driveway and he pulled a gun from under his shirt and fired at me. I yelled "Drop your weapon" as I drew and fired three rounds heading for cover. Fired three rounds from cover and did a tactical reload. Wooden shed not great cover as bullets came through. Fired three more rounds heading to brick wall and three more from the corner of the wall. Things got quiet and it was then that I saw I had hit the man in the red shirt 11 out of 12 shots in the kill zone. Not a bad day.
Despite the heat, I had a great time at our monthly shoot today.
