First time burner needs some help :)
Hey guys!
My name is Kailene and this year is my first year at Burning Man! I had a group all set up and had done all the planning until they backed out! Now I just have my friend from England coming, and we dont have a group. Are there any camps that still might accept two wonderfully outgoing, helpful, new burners? I am more than willing to dedicate many hours of volunteer work towards the camp before the burn (LA/OC area), during the burn, or after the burn for clean up! We will come prepared and ready for anything you might throw at us. I promise you wont regret giving me a chance to add some more vibrance to your group!
Thanks for your time!
Kailene

The myth of needing to join an existing camp is just that- a myth. Just make sure you've read the First Timer & Survival guides (and learn the Survival Guide!), bring what you need to survive your stay, and find a spot to camp for the two of you.
Meet your neighbors, learn your neighborhood, and just have fun. If you feel the need to volunteer, there's a place at Playa Info with groups looking for them. Personally, I would suggest just planning on exploring & playing your first year- you can contribute next time.
Remember to keep anything you don't want to lose locked up when you leave your camp. While BRC has a much lower crime rate than a comparable size city, it's not unheard of.

Hiya! I am also going for the first time, alone I think
My friends backed out, so I will be going alone. Any suggestions for a lone camper? I have all my survival gear and so on, but if there are any "lone" campers, let me know and maybe we can form a "neighborhood"!

Right on!!
Yup, I appreciate the links Eric...
I used to attend the Rainbow gatherings of the mid-70's era...Is burning Man somewhat like the Rainbow festivals of the 70's?
I have sort of aged myself here with that question but its all good ;) I am getting a "vibe" that it might have some similarities and that is WAYY cool with me. Aling with the Rainbow family, I used to have great time with the Summer Solstice gatherings as well.
Its been years and I need to "drop out" of society for a short while and reclaim that mental freedom we all need!
This is going to be awesome! ;)

Re: Right on!!
not at all. Really. Rainbow & Burning Man are completely different things, and while there are people who do both, the cultures for the most part are more like the antithesis of each other.seldco wrote:Is burning Man somewhat like the Rainbow festivals of the 70's?
Go with an open mind, but don't expect it to be a Gathering!

also solo
hi,
i'm in a similar sitch, no camp, going solo-ish, and saw that they are saving "primo space for the general public" to get together and just spontaneously create their digs. it will be on the map....that's an option i'm considering.

Not sure about the older gatherings, but some burners are much like the Diggers.seldco wrote:Yup, I appreciate the links Eric...

Big difference is no one at burning man works as hard as the people organizing the gatherings do.
There is a lot more meat, more color, more explosives, more fire, worse music (amazingly enough), more art cars, more games, more dust, more alcohol, more art, more choice, more choice....
