Virgin feeling like there is no such thing as fully prepared
Virgin feeling like there is no such thing as fully prepared
So I have a multi-tab spreadsheet full of formulas summarizing my budget, supplies etc, great burner friends and the survival guide for advice, and acquiring a growing stack of Playa Supplies in my bedroom. I've been dying to go for years since I heard of this event and it's finally going to happen.
It's coming quickly (almost too soon!) and yet not soon enough...
Young professional doing a trek from Los Angeles, not 100% finalized on my logistics yet, maybe with a visit through No Cal. I have been dying to step away from the typical rush of life. It's a good thing, but I am looking forward to a playa cleanse.
The mind share of the people, art, untainted night sky and sunrise are calling.

Soon you will be one with the dust and only them will you discover how fully prepared. What you didn't bring will become glaringly obvious, as well as what you over-brought. You can't bring enough water, you can bring to much food.
Enjoy your spreadsheet now, for out on the playa it will only be a faded memory.

Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Just so long as you aren't taken off the playa in an ambulence, a helicoptor or a hearse, you're doing it good enough. At some point you ahve to charge ahead.

Yes
You can be fully prepared.
But you can go without that.
prepare the best you can but there is no need for anxiety. While the playa can be an unforgiving environment your friends and neighbors are likely to be very forgiving and friendly.... Whatever you forgot or run out of that is a critical necessity you can probably borrow or get as gift from a neighbor....it is a community after all... Sounds like you are prepared to me....

My friend, too, a Burner of 8, told me once I was overprepared. I read, studied, made lists, bought supplies, made more lists, god, I bought an RV. I wasn't certain I was ready, even though I am an experienced boondock camper. But, like I told him, I didn't want for much. I'm sure this year I'll forget something easy and very important. Some things you can't prepare for, but remember, it's just a week long camping trip---on the moon.

Not to make you paranoid but.. did you bring a can opener? Maybe two in case you get confused one night and forget where you put it? Or just in case, what about three so you can lend one out and still have an extra?....teardropper wrote:My friend, too, a Burner of 8, told me once I was overprepared. Update - sorry this took a while.
Thank you for all your welcoming. Playa Magic seems to be starting to pull itself together. I have now finalized my arrival with a friend who is an eight year veteran (it will be nice to have a guide).
You guys are right, the closer it gets the more I just think about how I'm going to be there, and not how I'm going to get there. I just went and did an EL project tonight with another friend, and I can't hardly wait!!!
You are way over-thinking it.
But maybe you have never been camping before.
It's because I have been camping quite a bit that I have a good respect for arid desert conditions. Besides, Burning Man is also supposed to be about art, etc, so I would be bringing far more than just the bare essentials.
And yes, I probably will forget something, lol... hopefully nothing too important!
