Hi my friend and I are flying in all the way from Texas and we know what we need to bring, however since this is our first Burning Man, we're a little concerned about where we're going to sleep and how we're going to get our camping gear there? :)
I was considering renting a mini van from the airport and just using that as our lodging, except the problem is where to keep the gas and the expense of the gas.
So does anyone know how to join a theme camp or village? and does anyone know of a bus in dallas or austin that will take our camping gear to Burning Man?
Thanks for the help!

Temp,
Welcome, Dude! Texas is a BIG place. What part ya from?
Ever hear of the Damn Fuckin' Texans...theme camp based outta Austin/Houston? Contact them at: [email protected].
DFW Burners outta Dallas: [email protected]
Border Burners outta El Paso: [email protected]
Most theme camps' rosters are filled this late, but ya might get squeezed in if ya hustle. If you don't score, no worries. Wherever ya camp w/b just fine. It's a big, friendly place...especially if you bring treats!

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

The classic mode is to rent the minivan, or car, or whatever, and then run around Reno buying stuff--tents, water, food, even bicycles. Don't use the car to sleep in, unless you don't mind kinks in the back and are willing to get up by eight am. If you spend much time there durning the day, you run the risk of dehydrating.
Also, I suggest you make your reservations for the auto now. They may not have what you want when you get there. And there's all this dicey-ness in relation to the auto company. Some renters do not want their cars to go to the event, because they come back dirty. Plan on spending some serious time cleaning up to get your deposit back.

Welcome.
A village will require you provide your own sleeping arrangements and supplies anyway. Check the theme camp threads, some are still taking members. But be warned, most of them will require you to bring your own tents. Buy them in Reno is common practice.
Fishy is right about reservations, make them now.
