God Hates Reno

Post by Playa Foot » Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:24 pm

A couple years ago in Reno a college student was abducted and murdered. It took some time to find her body, during this time the case got substantial publicity. Her funeral was a major local event and got the attention of Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptists. When they showed up at the church they were met by a group (including many burners) from the local community who unfurled large banners which effectively isolated the Westboro group from the services. The rights of the protesters were upheld but they were effectively and peacefully silenced.

and, then, a well deserved "well done" for the local group.

As for funerals, there is the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of bike owners who stand guard at military funerals to keep the assholes at a distance. Are they all good guys? I have no idea, but they've done some good work here in Utah. I should learn more about them, I have helped with their veteran flag displays.

and another "well done"...........

To me, that's the perfect thing.
If you don't like 'em, personally, shout'em down, block'em, whatever.
No violence necessary, no cops, no lawyers, no "new laws".
The "counter protest" can be very effective, IMHO.
Our constitution is preserved, and, used correctly.

Badger.....you're fucking awesome.

I wish we could see similar things happen in Denver as that sorry assed group will be protesting at high schools out there, and don't forget the Omaha flag desecration charges that one family member has still pending...those charges just won't go away for her and hopefully justice will be delayed but not denied. I've been fighting against the man and his family since I got spit on by the old man himself in 1992. This battle against ignorance can't have enough troops to fight it....and the more fronts this battle can have, the better.

Do they have non-profit status as a 'church'?
Several of the family members have left the group, they've written about growing up 'Phelps'; there seems to be lots of child abuse over the years, yet no action by authorities...
It feels like they've got the system wired - everyone's afraid of calling them to the carpet, so they're allowed to run rampant...
Cult, anyone??

Yeah, but this is fun for everybody.
Also, links fail sometimes, even when direct photo links keep working.
Always best to go to the most direct source too.
And pasted text is permanent.

Really funny stuff.

Apparently at least according to Fox News.
(Which is just too weird a thing to fit in my brain, but oh well. Nice to see that fox news holds to some standard of decency.)
But, does the name "Waco" mean something to you, gamin?

I got a church's non-profit status revoked, at least for awhile, on the grounds that they opposed the government.

Yep, I'm originally from West Texas, home to weird cults of all kinds...
It's not that Westboro is unusual in their 'cultishness', unfortunately; they're just so in-your-face obnoxious...

Oh, I'll just shut-up & drink the kool-aid, now...

Westboro serves a purpose to those willing to see their worth as examples.

They also serve as a means of what's become routine, personal entertainment.

We'll leave it at that.

Well, except to say that those knuckle-dragging fucks were shut DOWN when the Stanford band decided to start playing 10 feet from the Phelps clan's raving bullhorns.

It was awesome.

Oh, and GOSH!!! Why would someone do that?

Dude,

Do NOT get caught.

This is a group of nutbags who have more frequent flier miles than pilots are allowed to fly in a year. They've been able to pay for those plane tickets because several of them are very competent, very litigious lawyers.

Don't ever forget how they get their money. They WANT you to assault them. They'd really like to catch it on camera.

Be careful.

seriously, they are inciting your intolerance towards their calculated idiocy to keep the money train rolling.

I do love the stanford band story, and all of the "protest" signs!!!

I was @ the Reno funeral counter-protest, and while i didn't have the foresight to make a creative sign, i did yell/"sing" some limericks that even got the police to laugh.

The way it worked here was that a few police made sure that there were no altercations between the offset groups, purposely avoiding any lawsuits
They had to stay on their corner furthest form the church, while the other corners were ours.

A group on the church-side held-up tarps and banners allowing the attendees to not even have to see these gutless, waste-of-flesh f-ckbuckets, while us closest to them alternated obvious insults, x-rated xmas carols, the theory of inbreeding and evolution, that their angry god must also hate the haters, the missouri expulsion of the mormons, and that'd we'd love to see a sign w/ words that have more than 5 letters, etc, etc, etc.

I wish you well in your public dissection of these losers, and hope that your city also provides the token police w/ cameras so that these self-serving hate-filled subhumans have zero chance of making $ there.
your witty rejoinder just flew over my head.....

I hope info gets out about how to donate to that guy's legal defense fund. I just wish he could have found a way to control who got sprayed better...I heard children got some overspray and that's not good.
