Hello everyone

Post by 707 » Wed Jul 21, 2010 12:12 am

I am seriously thinking about trying to purchase a ticket for this event that I imagine to be nothing but wonderful. It really isn't/is a big deal to me weather i go or not at the moment but i do know it would be life changing if i did.

So how do i write that I am so not normal but think I might not be so out of place at this festival. I have a very hard time planning things in advance but want to try purchase a ticket before the end of the month.(july)

I do not know anyone who would/could go with me so i would be solo which is "normal" for me. I do not think the desert or dust storms would be a problem for me. Getting there is what I'm struggling with.

So anyhow I will write more when I'm not so inebriated and find out if I'm going or not.

PS I would really like suggestions on how to get to Black Rock from the nearest airport. I was thinking bike but do not think that is possible at the moment.

Well, I guess a WELCOME may or may not be in order to you. I hope you either make it or not make it this year, depending what works best for you. I hope you decide rather soon--or not, at some point whether you find your way to Black Rock City.

You can get a ride from the airport by finding someone else who is renting a car to take you.

I would be flying out of Fargo, ND.

127 miles would probably be to far to ride bike carrying a bunch of water. Is it possible to buy all the supplies needed for BM in Gerlach? I'd like to find a ride but if I can't I'm willing to bike.

I'm off to see what a plane ticket will cost. I'm not shure what I'm willing to spend yet hopfully they are not to expensive.

Yes... You should have your basic transportation planned out for many reasons. The most critical of which is that you may not find a "last minute" ride to the playa. It isn't exactly on a regular bus route with Greyhound. The other reason is all your stuff. You need to plan for everything you will require to keep yourself alive and relatively comfortable including, but not limited to your entire supply of food and water for the whole week.

The thread is very real. I wound up reading the biking thread so that is out of the question.

I looked up tickets and I now have the problem of they are super expensive to Reno with many stops which i'm not willing to do(LAX), or fly to Vegas. I think getting a ride from Vegas may be to difficult.

I really want to go but am limited on my planning days. I'm lost at the moment.

A little grey hound info would be appreciated.

My dear 707, there is no reason that you can't make it this year. This may be the perfect time to share the children's store of "The Little Engine That Could". I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

You seem to be all over the place as far a making decisions and plans for the trip. First, you will need to sober up for at least a few hours and then check into some flights. The fares are lowest on Tuesday's, so try to figure the day you want to fly and then look for those flights this coming Tuesday. You may even be able to reserve a small rental car for the week, with just the money you save on the flight.

As far as supplies, scope out stores that are local to you, and mkae nice tight lists of things that you need to buy when you get to Reno.

The biggest hinderance I can see that you are going to have, it the inability to make a decision. This may be the perfect time to address those issues here and change your life forever. Make some real solid decisions and stick with them.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Black Rock City this year.

WELCOME!!
I just checked United airlines website and they fly from Fargo to Denver, Denver to Reno for $408 round trip, leaving Fargo August 27 and returning Sept 6. The only other airline I checked was Southwest but they don't go to Fargo
I'm not sure if those who are flying to Reno are concidering the expense of "baggage fares." If you're gonna ship a bike, tent, sleeping bag, BM clothing etc. thats at least three items of "checked baggage" that could tack on an aditional $75-$100, more or less.

Wow Shambala you summed up my life pretty well. I almost looked over my shoulder.

I am not able to drive so I would need a ride from Reno. What would be a good date to arrive I was thinking a few day's befor the event so i could get supplies and look for a possible ride. I was also thinking about a oneway ticket because I wouldn't know when I would be leaving yet unless i stayed in Reno after the event.

I am open to all suggestions. Other possibilities are going to the event late or leaving early. Next year looks better for me but i think it would be fun to experience it myself. Then do it comfortably with friends in the future.

My deadline for ticket purchase is going to be next Tues since I want to purchase them tomorrow.

Thanks,

Holy shit 707, you are just like my sister. She can't make a decision to save her life. When she is invited to the house, I have to wait until 15 minutes prior to find out if she is coming.
Here's what you must do! Fly in on Monday, August 30 and go straight to the Burning Man desk at the airport, by the luggage area. There you will meet someone who can give you a ride to get supplies and drive you to BRC.
Next, make your flight home around 9:00pm on Monday September 6th. You will be able to easily catch a ride from BRC, since evryone will be heading out at the same time. Make a sign that says "RENO AIRPORT". You can leave any extra supplies in Gerlach with any family there.

I hope these nice firm directives help you to make your plans.
See you there!

Not trying to trick, just a little motivation. If they are anything like my sister, they won't get past picking out which color luggage to use. :D

I only have three bags and would be using all of them so that would be easy.

I just checked on tickets again and actually had a round trip to Reno all ready for checkout. I have until the 31 to get an event ticket so it can be mailed to me.

Next step start packing.

PS Rarelly do I have time to stop and take picture's. The battery is also dead on my camera and the charger is missing.

Someone quiz me I think I'm getting pretty knowlegable about BM.

I'd still need the ride from Reno. I would try and take everything I need to survive on the plain if that is even possible. Not shure yet what's allowed on a plane.

Monday flight out and Tues flight home so I could help a little with clean up was what I was thinking.

Here's your quiz:
Do you have all the shelter things ready? tent, sleeping bag, some shade?
Have you read the survival guide and first timers guide? Have you gone through lists of suggested items to bring? You can cut back on things, but the lists are great to jog your mind.
Awesome about the flights.

707, I can tell you with absolute certainty, that if you actually pull this off and make it out to BRC, your life will never be the same. You will forever be referring to things as "pre-BM & post-BM".

Best of luck with the plans and hopefully we'll see you in a month.

Go to your profile and uncheck the button that says "Disable BBCode..."
Go to the post you want to quote and press "Quote."
Write and edit as needed.
If you want to do other things, quoting a post and then not posting it will allow you to see how the code works.

So I have my ticket in hand and have come to the realization that I shouldn't go. Burning man fall's on the worst possible time of year for my job which I should quit. I would also have a hard time getting to the playa because i can't drive.

If anyone know's of a good way I could get rid of my ticket I would like to hear it. I want to mail it out by Monday.

Off to drown my sorrow's in booze.

Well, 707, I don't know if I should urge you to quit your job or urge you to sell your ticket.
If you go for the latter, you can post on this eplaya sub-forum. There's a handy how-to at the top of the first page.

I really need to just accept my job and enjoy what it offer's me. I have found local people that i can give my ticket to. I Think I would really love BM and what it has to offer me but now is not the right time. Someday I will arrive on the playa with a bus load of my friends and we will all make BRC our home for the week until then have a happy burn everyone and someday we may meet.
