Miss Giggle Monster
I just wanted to give a huge shout out to Caley at Miss Giggle Monster! I ordered a furry kitty hat from her, and it was a little later than promised, so she sent me a free one! They are both kickass and will keep me warm at night. Check Caley out at this site for awesome Burning Man clothes!

I'm sure the cap did not make you look that way.......Dr. Pyro wrote:I actually got rid of that stupid fire hat because I was afraid that it would begin to fall apart, though it was not made of faux fur but some kind of plastic crap. And besides, it made me look like an idiot.

Judging by the thinly veiled snark (and in france it can't even be that veiled!) it's just you.Frankenstipe wrote:Is it just me or is that stuff way overpriced and not very interesting? :?

You do realize that I was tongue in cheek agreeing with you. And I'd say that that's the general consensus. I don't know about the spirit of the event stuff. because I can see the "I work hard, I don't have the time or the skills to sew and I can afford it" as being real, although if that's not paired with "i have to contribute too, and mere money doesn't count" then I'm not interested. And I can certainly see that being a burner who does sew and design costume wanting to make a living at it. And in five years, it'll all be chinese slave labor making burn and rave clothes and they will be very wretched.
So, I guess that first post sort of grates on me; no way of knowing that it isn't Miss Giggle Monster herself.

lolololol I had this quote stuck in my head after reading this thread on my phone right before sleep last night. Love it..dragonpilot wrote:Wow! Those are just so...burney!
The closest thing I'm coming to fur this year would be either my monster 12' custom beanbag for the back of the truck, or my red crushed velvet/zebra print bell bottoms. Other than that, I'm with the "Fur free is the way to be" camp. Bumper stickers coming..

The first post was not Miss Giggle Monster, I truly bought something from her and was happy with my experience so I wanted to share. I am going to Burning Man for my first time this year, and I hope everyone is not as snobby there as they are on this board about the clothing. I do not know how to sew, but have started learning and making some of my own outfits. I have supplemented with some purchased clothes, and that is not a crime as far as I know. As a first timer I need to accumulate some clothes, and if I tried to sew all of them, it would take me until next year. I thought Burning Man was supposed to be more about not judging than the real world, which it is not from what I've seen on this thread.

I'm sorry that we stepped all over your enthusiasm with our cynicism. We get a lot of people who do post for commercial purposes on our board, even when that is explicitly forbidden. Here's some idea of how hard it is to keep on top of that. Although it's getting close to the event so there's more activity on the board than usual, many of us are here year round and see the same old things happen again and again. It's hard to be just and patient all the time.
Please, do not judge the burn by us, or even us by us (if we met on the playa you might not even recognize us.) If you want to see us in a different mode, you might try looking in the "General Discussion" sub-forum; in many ways it's a much friendlier scene.

May I suggest khaki and wingtips?
Costumes for no particular reason, are not a requirement.
Next time, my clothing theme will be 'burning man guy'.
Anyway, fake fur is still MURDER to clean.
